CHUCK HEBING, BRETT MARTIN, CORY SAWYER, ANTHONY GUTHRIE AND CHASE MATTESON WIN AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY

DSC_3458RANSOMVLLE, NY.- June 4, 2016-  It was another beautiful night of weather last Friday night with a huge crowd on hand at Ransomville Speedway. Johnston’s Restaurant and Just Signs sponsored the night’s activities. The Patriot Sprints made its’ first of two scheduled Ransomville Speedway 2016 appearances.  The 50/50 topped the $2000 mark!

Chuck Hebing of Ontario, NY won the 25 lap Patriot Sprint feature. For Hebing, it was his fourth career win at Ransomville Speedway. Hebing took the lead from Ransomville Speedway’s Krown Undercoating 358 Modified competitor Ryan Susice of Ransomville on lap eighteen. Susice has only had a handful of starts in 360 Sprint Cars and looked like a sure winner after taking the lead on lap six before Hebing made his winning move. Hebing is considered one of the more successful 360 Sprint drivers in North America.

DSC_3556-XLJared Zimbardi was third, after flipping over on his side in his heat race. Dane Lawrence was fourth while Steve Glover was fifth while Jonathan Preston was sixth. Tommy Wickham was an early leader and ended up against the outside wall on turn two while leading. He would go to the pits to change a tire and return to the racing surface. Wickham would finish seventh. Darryl Ruggles was eighth and Paul Habeck was ninth. Josh Azzi was tenth.

Patriot Sprint heat winners were Susice, Hebing and Ruggles. Lawrence was the Dash winner.

In the 25 lap Investors Service Company Sportsman Feature, Brett Martin of Lockport, NY won for the first time in 2016. Brett took over the lead after then leader Greg Martin was spun out by then second place runner Derrick Borkenhagen on lap 17, who would then be sent to the pits for the remainder of the race. Both Kevin Wills and point’s leader Matt Farnham would also be involved in the mishap after they tried to avoid the accident. Both Greg Martin and Wills would not return to the race. The event was caution filled.

Greg Martin was the quickest on the track before the incident. He took over the lead on lap five. In the end, it was Brett Martin holding off Austin Susice of Ransomville. Brett Senek, also of Ransomville was third while Jesse Cotriss of Medina, NY came back from an early race visit to the pits to change a flat tire to pick up fourth. James Henry of Niagara Falls, NY was fift while Steve Lewis Jr of Ransomville was sixth. Mike Williams of the Tuscarora Nation, NY was seventh. Eighth was Jim Harbison of Ransomville and Dan Michaud of Medina was ninth. Tenth was Noah Walker of North Tonawanda.

Heat race winners were Chris Burek of Wilson, Senek and Greg Martin.

In the 20 lap Ki-Po Chevrolet Street Stocks feature, it had been several years since Cory Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY had entered victory lane. Last Friday night, Sawyer did it by beating three time 2016 winner Billy Bleich Jr of Port Robinson, Ontario. Sawyer beat Bleich by five care lengths at the finish line. Sawyer is a 1996 Ransomville Speedway Street Stock champion.

Sawyer would take the lead on a lap five restart with Bleich following him into second. Bleich would have several caution periods to restart on Sawyer’s back bumper. However, this time Bleich would have to settle for the second place position at the finish. Third place was taken by defending champion Brandon Sherwood of Sanborn, NY. Fourth was Mike Short of Tonawanda, NY and fifth was Jaren Israel of Wilson, NY. Ryan Hoolihan of Sanborn was sixth. Roger Israel of Wilson finished seventh. Early leader Kyle Wendt of Ransomville was eighth and Joey Zimmerman of Wilson was ninth. Brian Monahan of Ransomville was tenth. Chris Dziomba hit the fourth turn wall on lap one, Chris would walk away from the damaged car to a awaiting medical personel.

Heat race winners were Kyle Wendt and Jaren Israel.

Anthony Guthrie of Niagara Falls, NY won for the second time in 2016 in the twelve lap Gippsters Collision Four Banger feature. Guthrie had to hold off Cole Susice of Ransomville.

Guthrie took the lead on a lap seven restart. While both Guthrie and Susice battled for the lead, both came together on the final lap. Susice would hang on for second. Third was Nick Tarnowski of Ransomville while Mike Pahl of Lockport, NY was fourth. Fifth was Steve Matson of Ransomville. Chuck Cala  was sixth Pat O’Keefe of Youngstown, NY was seventh. Chad Desso of Wilson was eighth. Key McPherson of Lockport was ninth in his first ever Ransomville Speedway appearance. Rounding out the top ten was Brandon O’Keefe of Wilson.

Heat race winners were Brandon O’Keefe and Chad Lederhouse of Ransomville.

In the 12 lap Van Raine Construction feature, Chase Matteson of Wilson on his first career stock car event. Matteson would take the lead on lap three. Matteson would maintain at least a half straightaway lead for much of the race. The previous week’s winner Jonathan Reid of Lockport finished second. Third was Dustin Gorhan of Ransomville and Darrell Borkenhagen of Sanborn was fourth. Justin McKay of North Tonawanda, NY was fifth. Andrew Spurback of Niagara Falls, NY was sixth. Chris Miller of Olcott, NY was seventh. Eighth was Robbie Johnston and Garrison Krentz of Tonawanda was tenth.

Heat race winners were AJ Custodi and Justin McKay.
