TrackPrep1GEORGETOWN, DE –February 29, 2016-  The first on-track activity of 2016 is set for this weekend at Delaware’s historic Georgetown Speedway.

On Saturday, March 5, the half-mile oval will host an open practice session. All race vehicles able to pass safety inspection will be granted track time. With the ’16 Season Opener at Georgetown looming, this shakedown session can set the tone for a strong start.

On March 5, pit gates open at 1 p.m. Cars will hit the track at 3 p.m. and action will run through approximately 7 p.m.

Pit admission for the open practice is $20. Grandstand admission is FREE.

Work continued at the speedway over the weekend of February 27-28 including more clean-up and painting, trimming trees and, of course, a full day of track preparation. Projects are ongoing and the speedway will be a hub of activity for the next two weeks.

Attention then turns to the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial on Friday-Saturday March 11-12. A second open practice takes place on the 11th and the first Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP event on the season on March 12, kicking off the Velocita South Region with a 49-lap, $4,900-to-win feature offering $490 to take the green flag plus Crate 602 Sportsman, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
