069MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. –October 22, 2016- Stewart Friesen will chase another modified crown jewel from the pole after earning the top starting spot for the Eastern States 200 on Friday at Orange County Fair Speedway.

Friesen, fresh off his fifth victory in the Bud Light 200 at Oswego Speedway on Oct. 9, was part of the final group to qualify Friday evening. He knocked Brett Hearn off the top spot with a 107.655 mph lap to earn the pole as he attempts to win the Eastern States 200 for the first time. Sunday’s race pays $35,000 to the winner.

If one driver is able to win both the Eastern States 200 and the small-block race on Saturday, then that one driver will earn at least $60,000.

Hearn, who has 11 Eastern States 200 victories to his credit, will start second. Billy Decker, Vic Coffey and Tim Hindley completed the top-five in qualifying.

Heat races were won by Danny Creeeden, Brian Krummel, Danny Johnson, John Ferrier, Ronnie Johnson and Jerry Higbie.
