THUNDER ALONG THE MOHAWK WEEKEND TO CLOSE OUT THE 2016 SEASON THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT FONDA

fon_6200bFonda, NY –September 22, 2016-  After the exciting Sowle Showdown Triple 20’s racing program last weekend at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, the two day “Thunder Along the Mohawk Weekend” on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 will close out the 2016 racing season at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds facility.

On Friday, September 23 the Capital Region Sprint Car Agency (CRSA) Sprint Cars will highlight the racing program along with the 602 sportsman who will be competing in a 30-lap feature event. The street stocks, cruisers, and vintage cars will also be on the racing card with racing starting at 7:00 p.m. Modified hot laps will also be run on Friday evening for any race teams looking to get some track time in prior to Saturday’s race.

Grandstand admission prices for Friday will be $13.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under with a pit pass priced at $30.00. Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 on Friday afternoon. A combo ticket is also available for Thunder Along the Mohawk Weekend with a three-day pass for Thursday at Glen Ridge, Friday and Saturday at Fonda priced at $48.00. Two day passes are also available for Friday and Saturday at Fonda for $36.00 and a two day pass for Thursday at Glen Ridge and Friday at Fonda is $24.00.

fon_6050bThen on Saturday the Super DIRTcar Series Modifieds will be competing in a 100-lap feature event while the DIRTcar Pro Stocks will be competing in a 50-lap main event. The 360 Sprint cars from the Empire Super Sprints (ESS), the United Racing Club (URC), and the Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) will all be on hand competing in the 25-lap Kramer Williamson Memorial race with the street stocks also on the racing card.

Grandstand gates will open on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. with warm-ups beginning at 6:00 p.m. Adult grandstand admission on Saturday will be $28.00 with children 12 and under priced at $7.00. Pit admission with a DIRTcar license will be $40.00 and without a DIRTcar license it will be $45.00.

Summarizing previously held Super DIRTcar Series events held at Fonda in the past, there were a total of 34 events held with 17 different drivers winning those events led by Brett Hearn who has a total of seven series event wins back in 1986, 1987, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, and 2014. Following behind Hearn in series wins at Fonda is Danny Johnson who has a total of four (1983, 1988, 1992, 1993); Jack Johnson with three (1976, 1979, 1980); Dave Lape (1973, 1991), Lou Lazzaro (1977, 1978), C.D. Coville (1981, 1982), Jimmy Horton (1984, 1996), Doug Hoffman (1989, 1999), and Kevin Collins (1990, 1994) all with two victories apiece followed by Ralph Holmes (1972), Will Cagle (1974), Wayne Reutimann (1975), Bob McCreadie (1985), Bobby Varin (1995), Alan Johnson (2000), Tim McCreadie (2003), and Billy Decker (2015) who all have one victory apiece in series events held at Fonda.

fon_5536bThe Empire Super Sprints (ESS) have competed at Fonda a total of 18 times in the past with 12 different drivers winning those events led by Justin Barger with a total of five ESS event wins; Lance Yonge and Steve Poirier both with two event wins; John Brutcher, Bobby Parrow, Tom Taber, Craig Lane, Doug Emery, Jessica Zemken, Jeff Cook, Chuck Hebing, and Stewart Friesen who all have one win apiece at Fonda.

The Capital Region Sprint Car Agency (CRSA) Sprint cars have competed at Fonda a total of 14 times in the past with nine different drivers winning those events led by Danny Varin with a total of four victories followed by Josh Pieniazek and Cory Sparks with two event wins apiece, Dylan Swiernik, John Matrafailo, Tyler Rice, Jordan Thomas, Mike Kiser, and Kyle Smith who all have one victory apiece.

The United Racing Club Sprint cars have competed at Fonda a total of 48 times, the last time being in 2005 when Ed Aiken was the winner of the 25-lap event. There have been 28 different winning drivers in those 48 events with Kramer Williamson, the driver who the memorial race at Fonda is named after this weekend, one of those drivers after he won a URC race at Fonda back on 5/23/92.
