The 2016 Season Reving Up at ‘The Great Race Place’

150704-as-3MALTA, NY- April 3, 2016- The Albany-Saratoga Speedway will open their gates for the first official event of the 2016 season on Friday April 22nd. As has been the case for many seasons, the DIRTcar Modifieds will take center stage with what is arguably the best field in the Northeast.

When the green flag waves in just under three weeks’ time, defending track champion Kenny Tremont, Jr. will lead the field in defense of his crown. His weekly arch rival – New Jersey’s Brett Hearn will also be in attendance looking to dethrone the Sand Lake Slingshot. Tremont claimed the 2015 crown by 69 points over Hearn, Marc Johnson, Peter Britten and Ronnie Johnson.

The 2016 Albany-Saratoga Speedway schedule is full of specials for the DIRTcar Modified division. A look at the schedule shows a pair of $3,000 to win feature events bookending the points season. The seasons point finale is on September 2nd.

As the calendar flips through the month of May and June three events highlight the schedule. The first is the first special qualifier for the division. On May 13th the DIRTcar Modified division will compete in a King of the Catskills qualifier. The King of the Catskills takes place at the Accord Speedway on September 16th. The second and final qualifier will hit the track on June 24th when the feature winner will earn a spot in the Outlaw 200 at the Fulton Speedway on October 1st.

268Mark your calendars for Tuesday night June 28th. The stars and cars of the Super DIRTcar Series make their way to the Great Race Place with the running of the 8th annual Big Show. The Brett Hearn promoted event will feature Kenny Wallace and see the Sportsman division once again as the undercard. Adult general admission is $24 while kids are $5.

On Friday evening July 29th track promoter Lyle DeVore is bringing back one of the most popular event’s on the schedule. Twin 20 lap DIRTcar Modified feature events will be held as the season rolls through its second half. The season will conclude on September 16th with a Modified special, which is a part of the Fall Finale.

The action at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway is presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers, Andy’s Speed Shop, Budweiser, Cleveland Brothers, County Waste, E. Stewart Jones, Ferris, Garone’s Concrete, Herrington Farms, Lazzaro’s Auto Body, Lussier Excavating, Morris Ford, Pallette Stone Corp, Quad Graphics, Recovery Sports Grill, Rifenburg Construction, Rounds Paving, Satch Sales, Sherwin-Williams, Smoker’s Choice, Snap-On Tools, Sysco, Tinkers, Upstate Buick GMC Dealers, VP Race Fuels and Wendy’s Restaurants.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway will open its doors on Sunday April 17th for a practice session. The season is set to kick off on Friday night April 22nd with all divisions in actions including the Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinders. The DIRTcar Modified division will compete for a $3,000 top prize.
