137Fonda, NY- January 18, 2016- Are you feeling blue due to the lack of excitement in your diet? Having anxiety attacks over the upcoming racing season?

Well the “Track of Champions” has the cure for your aliments. The “Doctor” will be setting up office at the Fonda Speedway this year. In a conversation with car owner Chris Gennarelli, it was confirmed that Danny Johnson’s #27J will be calling the “Track of Champions” his new Saturday Night home according to Fonda Speedway promoter Pete Demitraszek.

In the history of the Fonda Speedway Johnson has a total of 10 career wins, the first one coming on September 25, 1982 and the last one on September 23, 2012 which included a two win season in 1988.

Johnson’s last win at Fonda back on Sunday September 23, 2012 came in a rain delayed feature from the night before on the final race weekend of the 2012 racing season. Johnson took the early lead in the 40-lap event from his pole position start with Matt Sheppard and Brett Hearn racing side by side for the first few laps for the second position after starting second and third respectively.

Eventually Sheppard would get the second spot and he and Johnson would pull away from the rest of the field by lap five. Stewart Friesen started the event in the sixth position and on lap 10 he took the third position away from Hearn and a few laps later took the second spot away from Sheppard. Friesen tried to get to the inside of Johnson in turn one many times as the laps wound down but each time the “Doctor” closed the door and held on to the lead.

Sheppard got by Friesen for the second spot with four laps to go and he also tried to get to the inside of Johnson in turn one only to have Johnson close the door on him as well. At the checkered flag Johnson was the winner followed in the top five by Sheppard, Hearn, Friesen, and Alan Johnson.

For Johnson the win came in the Page Trucking sponsored #27J Bicknell car.

111“It has been a long time since I have been here in victory lane at Fonda,” Johnson said in victory lane with his last win at Fonda coming on April 14, 2007. “It was tough to pass and I was getting stuck behind the lap cars, it was like racing on asphalt.”

Out of Johnson’s 10 career wins at Fonda, eight of them have come in events of 50 laps or more. Four of those victories were in Super DIRT Series events back in 1983, 1988, 1992, and 1993. His win at Fonda in the 1992 Super DIRT Series event led him to the 1992 Mr. DIRT title which he was also able to win back in 1989, 1997, and 1999 as a four time Mr. DIRT Champion. Johnson was also the Super DIRT Week Champion back in 1997 and 2006.

The Fonda Speedway website is back up at www.fondaspeedway.com which is where you can go to see the latest news about the “Track of Champions” as plans for the 2016 season are announced.
