Borror Takes Career First at Grandview Speedway

BORROR, SHUEY AND RYAN LILICK WIN NASCAR STOCK CAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY NIGHT

BECHTELSVILLE, PA – June 5, 2016 . . . Kyle Borror came close to winning a Modified feature at Grandview Speedway last year, but couldn’t accomplish the feat. Saturday night the 2015 Hard Luck recipient started seventh in the 28-car starting grid, took over the lead on the sixth lap restart and later held off the challenges of 10-time point champion Jeff Strunk and defending champion Craig Von Dohren to capture his first ever career victory in the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified All-American Racing Series 30-Lap feature.

“I was wore out at the finish said an elated Borror and on the second last caution restart I thought I would be a sitting duck seeing Strunk and VonDohren right behind me, but I wasn’t about to give up and I kept riding the cushion.” The decision paid off for the Peach Bottom, Pa. resident as he came out on top.

Brian Shuey collected his third BRC NASCAR 25-lap Late Model feature winner by holding off the challenges of defending point champion Chuck Schutz. “I knew Schutz was behind me and I tried to mix-up the lanes and just kept trying to hit my marks.” Shuey thanked Scott and Sue Lee and the crew for all their efforts and countless hours plus he sent out special get well wishes to his dad and mom.

The 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature was filled with numerous accidents, but when everything was all set and done Ryan Lilick was the sixth different winner and he claimed his first win of the year.

All three winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers. $250, Modifieds; and $100 to both the Late Model and Sportsman division. They also were awarded the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.

NASCAR stock car racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, June 11th, 7:30 p.m. when T.P. Trailers of Limerick, PA sponsors the tripleheader card of racing featuring the 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Modified action saw polesitter Justin Grim set the pace for five laps before the caution was needed when Brett Kressley spun in the fourth turn causing a multi-car accident. Everyone continued but Kressley had to be towed in. Chris Esposito, who was second at the time, pitted relinquishing the spot, but rejoined the pack in time.

When action resumed Borror put the Wide Open engine powered No. B4 into the top spot trailed by Ron Haring Jr., J. Grim, Danny Erb and Ryan Grim.

Borror’s ¼-way track advantage was erased when Mike Kellner stopped in turn four. The restart was void when Haring Jr., second-place runner, spun in the fourth turn. Borror maintained the lead on the restart, but by this time Strunk, Von Dohren, Erb and R. Grim were bumper-to-bumper waiting for an error.

Strunk made several challenges, but each one was null and Borror remained the leader.

The caution Borror didn’t want to see was on the 22nd lap when Grim hit the wall between turns one and two. Kevin Hirthler was placed to rear for a rule infraction. Borror wasted no time pulling away since he knew who was behind him. Strunk was still second, but now Erb and Mike Gular were third and fourth as VonDohren fell to fifth.

It was a hard-fought battle and at the wave of the checkered Borror claimed a well-deserved victory. Strunk was second with VonDohren battling back for a close third followed by Erb for his season best finish and Gular, who came from deep in the pack from 23rd. Tyler Dippel, made a rare appearance was sixth with Jared Umbenhauer, Frank Cozze, Tim Buckwalter and Doug Manmiller rounding out the top ten.

Strunk, Ron Seltmann Jr. and Kory Fleming won the heats. The consi was won by Don Norris Jr.

In Late Model action Joe “Geezer” Fanelli set the early pace with Shuey, Drew Weisser, Schutz and Wayne Pfeil on his bumper.

Shuey tried several times to dive underneath Fanelli, but Fanelli kept him behind.

On the 12th lap Fanelli went too high off turn four and Shuey became the new leader. Schutz also succeeded in passing him to challenge Shuey.

While running third, Fanelli had a tough break and spun in the fourth turn. Left with no place to go, Dave Ogin and Randy Stoudt were also involved. After three tries, the next lap was finally completed with Shuey setting the pace.

Schutz almost became the new leader many times, but Shuey held off his challenges.

Shuey was able to withstand Schutz’s efforts to go on to collect his 18th career win at the track. Finishing a close second was Schutz followed by Pfeil, who returned after being off last week since he destroyed his car racing elsewhere; Bryon Sipe, last week’s feature winner and Ogin. Sixth through tenth were Dan Green, Fanelli, Cory Merkel, Dean Stoudt and Randy Stoudt.

Weisser and Sipe won the heats.

Before the first lap of the Sportsman feature could be recorded, last week’s feature winner Ryan Beltz slowed in the second turn. On the restart Josh Adams took control.

Runner-up Ken Bock brought out the next caution after a first turn spin on lap three. The restart was void after Dylan Swinehart was spun in turn four. Because several caution were needed before the next lap could be completed all restarts went single file. Adams led the way on the fourth lap restart, but one lap later R. Lilick was at the head of the pack.

Brian Hirthler advanced to second on the sixth circuit to pressure Lilick, but five laps later Butler was challenging Lilick.

The halfway straightaway lead Lilick built up was erased for a multi-car fourth turn incident. This put everyone nose-to-tail on the restart and Lilick moved away quickly leaving Butler, Hirthler, Bachman and Jordan Henn right behind.

Lilick kept the competition behind him to claim his fourth career win. Second went to rookie Butler with Hirthler, Dean Bachman and Henn third through fifth. Jim Housworth, Craig Whitmoyer, Ryan Higgs, Brett Gilmore and Mike Lisowski rounded out the top ten.

Hirthler, R. Lilick, Craig Whitmoyer and Beltz were the heat winners. The consies were won by Steve Searock and Mark Kemmerer.
