Time To Climb: Doug Borger’s XCel Chassis 600 Modifieds To Call Thunder Mountain Speedway Saturday Night Home In 2015 As Weekly Division; Six Tour Events Planned For Center Lisle, NY Track

CENTER LISLE, NY – It’s “time to climb” for Doug Borger’s XCel Chassis 600 Modifieds.

Borger – the XCel 600 Chassis founder and series coordinator – has announced a new Saturday night Southern Tier home track for his popular division in the upcoming 2015 season: Thunder Mountain Speedway. The agreement between Borger and Thunder Mountain’s management team brings the XCel 600 Modifieds on board as a weekly division at the three-eighths-mile facility.

The XCel 600 Modifieds will participate in qualifying events and 20-lap feature events each Saturday at Thunder Mountain. The division will compete for its own point fund which will be distributed at the year-end XCel Chassis Awards Banquet.

“We’re looking forward to calling Thunder Mountain our Saturday night home,” Borger said. “We had a couple events at the end of the season last year and we were all very impressed with the work that has been done to the facility and the smooth track surface. Our drivers were in favor of making the change. Thunder Mountain is a great fit for our class.”

Aside from weekly racing, there will be six “tour” events at the track during the ’15 campaign.

Tour events are scheduled for weekends to allow traveling competitors the opportunity to race twice with one tow. The first two-day weekend is planned for Saturday-Sunday May 2-3. The Saturday event is a weekly program at the track. On Sunday, the series will be part of a big ‘Spring Into 2015’ Small Car Showcase to include the NY6A winged 600cc Micro-Sprints, wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints, 270cc Micro-Sprints, Allstar Slingshots and Junior Slingshots.

The next tour weekend is June 27-28, to compete on Saturday night and then as part of the ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ Sunday special headlined by the Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek Modifieds in a $5,000-to-win 50-lap event joined by the Speedway Entertainment SpeedSTRs.

A similar scenario is planned for Sept. 12-13 as part of the year-end Wade Decker Memorial weekend, with a Saturday show and then serving as part of the $5,000-to-win Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek Modified and Tobias SpeedSTR doubleheader on Sunday.

Borger is in discussions with Jamie Page, the promoter of I-88 Speedway in Afton, N.Y., to include the division in a number of Friday programs at the facility.

Thunder Mountain Speedway, off the strength of a resurgent ’14 season, is gearing up for an even stronger ’15 campaign. Modifieds will again headline the weekly racing at the track with Sportsman, Crate 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders and the XCel 600 Modifieds completing the Saturday night card.

The Season Opener is planned for April 25 with $1,992-to-win Modifieds topping the program. An Open Practice will be the first on-track activity of the year on April 18.
