Bobby Gerhart Jr., to make Mahoning Valley Speedway appearance during September 19 race program

 

(LEHIGHTON, Pa. 9-13-15) Mahoning Valley Speedway is excited to announce that popular ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards star Bobby Gerhart Jr., will be stopping by Mahoning Valley Speedway this coming Saturday night, September 19, to meet and greet fans as well as take laps around the paved ¼-mile oval during intermission.

Gerhart, who hails from Lebanon, will be displaying his famous Lucas Oil/MAV TV No. 5 Chevy and will also bringing along his ARCA short track car to run laps with. He’ll be signing autographs for all fans on hand.

Gerhart, has deep racing roots in eastern Pennsylvania as a dirt Modified standout on the former Tri-track Series of Big Diamond, Grandview and Penn National. In the mid-1980s he turned his focus to asphalt and the ARCA Series, making his first start on pavement in 1988 at Pocono Raceway. Since then he has become a mainstay with the renowned stock series. He has raced to a record 8 Daytona ARCA 200 victories. He has also won at Talladega. At Pocono, no one has started more races on the 2.5-mile track than Gerhart which entails 67 overall, 53 in ARCA and 14 in NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Saturday’s race card will include all six regular track classes of Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks. Also, the rain-postponed Dirt Mod feature from July 18 will take place. Kids Big Wheel races will hit the track at intermission following Gerhart’s hot laps.

Adult general admission is $12. $2.00 off for students, seniors 65 + and active military. Must have ID. Children 10 and under are free. Grandstand gates open at 4:00 pm.

Pit gates open at noon. Early paid practice runs from12:30 to 3:00. Regular practice gets underway from 4:30 – 5:30. Racing starts at 6:00 pm.

The final day of points for all classes is on Saturday, October 3, which is highlighted by the Bob “Heavy” Scherer Memorial 100 for Modifieds that pays $3500 to win and is also the fifth race of the Central States Modified Gamblers Series. Rain date for this event is Sunday, October 4.

Octoberfast 2015 will be held on Saturday, October 17. The final program of the season will be October 24. Information on those two events will be announced soon.

A reminder to all that the 2015 Awards Banquet will be on Saturday, November 21 at the Northampton Community Center in Northampton.
