Last week a hefty penalty was issued to both Billy Pauch and Tyler Siri following the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida. Both drivers were suspended until May 28, 2016 and fined $2,000–plus a $150 lab fee–in addition to their purse money. Pauch and Siri are being placed on probation until December 31, 2016. Pauch will not appeal the penalty.

I had a chance to talk to Pauch this past Saturday prior to New Egypt Speedway’s March Meltdown.

“Rules are rules; whenever I get a new tire I clean it right away and this time we tried something new and I guess they didn’t like it,” said Pauch.

Pauch’s total fine came out to $3,050, a pretty heavy hit to someone who races for a living.

DSC_0147“It’s not like I race with them [DIRTcar] every week; how many races do I go to each year? Maybe Charlotte, if that,” emphasized Pauch. “I find it funny that Siri buys a race track and signs an American Racer deal and I’m an American Racer dealer and we’re the only two that got caught.”

Billy’s focus now returns to New Egypt Speedway where he’ll attempt to regain his stride after somewhat of an off season in 2015—in which he only won a single feature on August 8th.

Pauch has won six titles and 124 feature events at New Egypt Speedway throughout his legendary career.

The Frenchtown, NJ native won his heat race on Saturday afternoon at New Egypt and ended up 20th in the final rundown after pulling out of the event.
