DSC_0299Accord Speedway ‘Gobbler’ Will Have To Wait Seven More Days; Worsening Forecast, Mother Nature Force Postponement To Saturday, December 5 Setting Up Rare New York State December Event

ACCORD, NY – A rapidly evolving weather pattern – for the worse – forced the postponement of Saturday’s anticipated ‘Gobbler’ event at Accord Speedway.

Dry morning conditions and a promising forecast deteriorated quickly on Saturday. As race teams and fans filed into the Ulster County quarter-mile oval, a light mist became a steady rain, temperatures dropped and percentages for precipitation in the afternoon began to climb.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Accord Speedway owners Gary and Donna Palmer and Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC announced the event’s postponement to this Saturday, December 5.

A local government ordinance does not allow for racing at Accord on Sundays, prompting the rescheduling by seven days for a rare December Northeast dirt Modified event.

“It was such a disappointment for all of us that the weather deteriorated so quickly,” Deyo said. “There was so much hype for the event. We had racers from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire and more committed to be part of this show, but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate.

“Gary (Palmer) had the track perfect; he put long hours in to get it right. Now, we all have to wait one more week.”

The ‘Gobbler’ format will go unchanged. Headlining the program is a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified feature paying $5,500 to win plus lap money and bonuses. Sportsman, Open vs. Crate 602, battle 25 laps for $1,500 to win and Crate 602 bonuses of $150, $125 and $125. Street Stocks have a lucrative $1,000 winner’s share and Slingshots will race a 20-lap event with $400 going to the winner.

General rules and information for all divisions can be found on the BD Motorsports Media website at the following link: http://bdmotorsportsmedia.com/gobbler-general-information-rules-pricing-times/

Times will be unaltered for December 5. Pit gates will open at 10 a.m., with grandstand gates unlocked at 11 a.m. A drivers’ meeting is planned for 12:30 p.m., with hot laps at 1 p.m. and racing at 2 p.m.

Adult admission is $22. Seniors (ages 65 and over) pay $20 and Kids 11 and under pay $5. Limited indoor seating is available for $35 by calling 845.626.1142 in advance of the event. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.

Registration is open for the Modified, Sportsman and Slingshot divisions. Entry forms have been posted on the BD Motorsports Media website. There is no pre-entry fee for the Street Stock division.

The inaugural ‘Gobbler’ was contested on Nov. 30, 2013 with Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., securing the Modified triumph over Stewart Friesen. Other winners included Rocky Warner (Sportsman) and Charlie Houghtaling (Street Stock).

The ’14 version was postponed by weather to April 14, 2015. Jackie Brown Jr., a local Hurley, N.Y., competitor, was the Modified winner. Other victors included Greg McCloskey (Sportsman), Kevin Skelly (Street Stock) and Demetrios Drellos (Slingshot).

Accord previously ran Thanksgiving weekend race very early in the Palmer promotional regime, back in 2002 with Robbie Green of Wallkill, N.Y., the Modified winner.
