Eight Dates with One Drop for Series Crown

067ELMA, NY- February 23, 2016-  Race of Champions management is proud to announce an 8 race special Race of Champions dirt Crate Sportsman Modified schedule for the 2016 season. Several new tracks will host 8 different challenging events throughout New York and Canada to highlight the Series slate.

“The Race of Champions will be taking a new approach with the Sportsman program on dirt by offering a crate program utilizing the traditional Chevrolet 602 engine,” explained Joe Skotnicki of the Race of Champions. “We wanted to create a realistic schedule where Sportsman racers can have fun, see new venues and participate in exciting events. Sportsman racers are budget minded racers and we kept that in mind as we assembled this program.”

The Race of Champions dirt Crate Sportsman Modifieds will start their season at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario – Canada on Sunday, May 8 with the first ever Race of Champions appearance of any type at the historic Southern Ontario facility. The Series will be off until celebrating the Independence Day Holiday at Freedom Raceway Park in Delevan, N.Y. on July 2, followed by a date at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y. on July 3.  On Wednesday, July 13, the Series will partake in a blockbuster event at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y. before returning to Canada to be a part of the Northern Crate Nationals at the ultra-modern Ohsweken Speedway on July 25. The Series visits Freedom Raceway Park for another Holiday weekend visit on September 2. On September 3 a visit to Glen Ridge Motorsports Park in Fultonville, N.Y. as part of the “Grand Daddy 602” Nationals before returning to Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y. on September 10 to crown the Series Champion.

Driver’s participating in the Race of Champions dirt Crate Sportsman Modified Series will be able to drop their worst finish from the Series championship standings.

The Race of Champions is a sanctioning body presenting Modified and Stock Car racing on asphalt and dirt surfaces throughout the Northeast, with events in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The 66th annual Race of Champions weekend will take place in 2016 and is the second longest consecutive auto-racing event in North America, second only to the Indianapolis 500.
