A Trip To Bubba Raceway

By: Brooklyn Kennedy

-I was really looking forward to my first trip to Bubba Raceway especially with them running the USAC Wingless Sprints. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

-USAC had a strong showing of cars at 32 and the way the show was run was a slap in the face to a national touring division. There seemed to be no organization between the push trucks and track officials. The amount of time it took to push the cars off and proceed from one event to the next was just too much.

-The weather was definitely a factor in such a low fan count. It was so cold after the USAC heats the entire grandstands filed out of the Speedway to either leave for the night or warm up in their cars during the Mod Light heats and feature.

-I will give credit to the track crew. The surface was smooth and made for good side-by-side racing during the night.

-Brady Bacon looks to be the man to beat this season on the USAC tour. He is the defending champion and proved he plans on defending that. He was fastest during time trials and the feature winner.

-Seeing Bryan Clauson in a new ride was strange. It came as a shock when he and Tony Stewart Racing parted ways but it’s nice to see him land on his feet and score a ride. After going to a back up car and qualifying through the B Main, he worked his way through the field to finish a respectable 10th.

-I was able to keep up with the action at Volusia through Race Monitor and Twitter and it seems like I missed the most exciting night of racing there thus far. Billy Pauch and Larry Wright showing their displeasure at one another. Rick Laubach holding off the DIRT boys for the win. Brett Hearn needing to use a provisional to make the show after utilizing his back up car. It was a good night for the Modified division.

-Shane Clanton again schooled the field and claimed the victory in the World of Outlaw Late Model feature. I mentioned yesterday how great of a week he is having and it just seems to be getting better for him. Tonight we will find out if he will be able to sweep the weekend during the last night of competition here at Volusia.

-I am not looking forward to heading back to the cold weather in the northeast, but that only means we are a few weeks closer to racing action up north. I hope that Mother Nature cooperates for all the early scheduled races and be sure to tune into Racersguide.com for my Notebook and Editorials from some of the biggest events.
