15 year old Max McLaughlin to debut with HBR at Weedsport Speedway this weekend
Weedsport, NY- (October 19, 2015) The McLaughlin name is no stranger to the short tracks of central New York, and this weekend Max McLaughlin will carry on the family tradition when he pilots a No. 6 HBR prepared Troyer modified in the Last Call at the Port Weekend at the Weedsport Speedway. Max, the son of DIRT Hall of Famer Mike McLaughlin, has been tearing up the dirt tracks in the south and is excited to bring his talent to the famed HBR team.
“This is amazing,” said McLaughlin. “To have the opportunity to race in one of Mr. Heinke’s race cars is such an honor. When you add being teammates with Matt Sheppard and Jimmy Phelps I am almost speechless. I had the opportunity to test at Weedsport with HBR and it is such a great track.”
McLaughlin has raced 31 times in 2015, winning 13 times as well as being the number one qualifier 19 times in his UMP modified and Outlaw mini sprint. The high school sophomore totally understands that this will be a completely different ballgame then what he is used to racing, but feels he is up to the challenge.
“I know that these cars are different then what I have raced this season,” added the 15 year old. “I know there will be a learning curve, but I feel confident that having Matt and Jimmy and the experience of the HBR team to help me will definitely quicken that curve.”
McLaughlin will campaign the same HBR race car in his home state of North Carolina in the prestigious World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, November 5-7th. McLaughlin grew up going to the event not far from his home in Mooresville, NC and has always dreamed of someday racing in this classic.
“My Dad has taken me every year to the World Finals and I hoped that somewhere down the road I would get the opportunity to compete in front of my family and friends,” beamed the talented teen. “I never imagined that it would happen at 15. To be competitive at Charlotte you need to have a great car and a strong team and I feel that HBR has given me those tools and more.”
“We are excited to have Max join HBR,” said team owner Al Heinke. “He comes from a great racing family and we feel that he has the talent and drive to be a winner. He spent time with our team at Super Dirt Week and he seemed to fit in well. Our team mission is to give outstanding young race car drivers the opportunity to excel, and Max fits that mold.”
