BRIDGEPORT, NJ – Only two races remain and a $10,000 champion will be decided.

The road to the title stops next in Bridgeport, New Jersey on Saturday, September 30.

The ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ is set for Bridgeport Speedway, the seventh round of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Velocita-USA South Region, a 40-lap big-block/small-block Modified battle on the five-eighths-mile.

More than $25,000 in purse money is on the line, with $5,000 going to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag for 40 laps of racing.

Drivers will be dicing for valuable STSS points as the championship battle winds down.

Entering the ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ event, Boyertown, Pa., driver Ryan Watt leads by just a single marker over Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen (458-457). Both Watt and Friesen are past STSS South champions. Watt won the title in 2015. Friesen took top honors a year ago.

Lurking in third, just 12 points from the lead, is Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., the most recent STSS South winner at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway August 30. Howard and the Norm Hansell team have accrued 446 points.

Bridgeport is the final 100-point event on the schedule. After the ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ each driver’s worst finish will be dropped; those with perfect attendance receive 75 bonus points.

The STSS South finale Mid-Atlantic Championship weekend October 27-28 will offer championship points (starting at 150).

Drivers completing the top-10 in points entering Bridgeport are Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station, N.J. (423 points); David Van Horn of Harmony, N.J. (412 points); Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J. (410 points); Jordan Watson of Milford, Del. (392 points); Billy Pauch Sr. of Frenchtown, N.J. (376 points); Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa. (343 points); and Brett Kressley of Orefield, Pa. (336 points).

As an added bonus for racers, a two-night point fund has been established with Bridgeport on Saturday and Georgetown’s ‘September Showdown’ on Friday night (September 29). Points will be kept for the back-to-back nights of the American Racer ‘Southern Swing Weekend’ and the top-five will be paid as follows: 1) $500 – 2) $400 – 3) $300 – 4) $200 – 5) $100.

Joining the STSS Modifieds at Bridgeport are the Crate/Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks.

On September 30, pit gates open at 3 p.m. Grandstand gates unlock at 4 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 5:30 p.m., with racing at 6:30 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25. Students (ages 10-15) pay $10. Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35 (no license required).

A rain date of Sunday, October 1 is in place if needed.
