Seuss Hopes To Trim Myers’ Points Lead with Three Races To Go

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – September 14, 2016- The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will return to South Boston Speedway for the second time this season Saturday for the South Boston 150.
One driver that’s looking forward to coming back to the historic track is Andy Seuss.
The two-time defending champion enters the weekend as the only driver with three wins at the tight .4-mile oval. Seuss currently sits in second place as he continues his quest to become just the second driver in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour to win three consecutive championships. Should the Hampstead, New Hampshire, native pull off the feat, he would join George Brunnhoelzl III, who won three straight championships from 2011-13. Seuss currently trails Burt Myers by just 14 points (344-330) in the championship standings.
Brunnhoelzl won at South Boston in the spring and became the only other driver to record multiple wins at the .4-mile track.
Bobby Measmer Jr. enters the weekend as the most recent winner on the tour after scoring his first tour victory at East Carolina Motor Speedway. He has success at South Boston having won the Coors Light Pole Award for this event last fall.
Seuss, Brunnhoelzl and Jason Myers are the only drivers in the field who have started all previous 10 southern modified races held at the track since 2009.

The Race: The South Boston 150 will be the ninth of 11 races during the 2016 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship season. This is the tour’s 11th all-time visit to the historic oval, and the second of two slated for this year.
The Procedure: The starting field is 26 cars, including provisionals. The first 23 cars will qualify through two-lap time trials while the remaining three starting spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race is scheduled for 150 laps (68.25 miles) and teams have an opportunity to pit and change one tire during the event.
The Track: South Boston is a .4-mile high-banked asphalt oval located in South Boston, Virginia. The facility features NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned events on Saturday nights throughout the racing season, headlined by the late model division. Some alumni of the track who have or are competing in one of NASCAR’s three national series include: Jeff and Ward Burton, Elliott and Hermie Sadler, Timothy Peters and Jeb Burton.
The Records: L.W. Miller holds the NWSMT track qualifying record at 14.466 seconds and 99.544 mph, set on April 14, 2012.
South Boston 150 Notes
Burt Myers Seeks South Boston Breakthrough: Although he’s recorded top 10s in all nine of his previous starts at South Boston, Myers has yet to win at the track. He came close in the spring when he fnished runner-up to George Brunnhoelzl III. His worst finish at the oval came in 2010, when he finished eighth – the year he won his only tour title to date.
Edgerton To Make First Start In Home State: Chesterfield, Virginia, native Lauren Edgerton will make her first tour start at South Boston Speedway this Saturday. She started last Sunday at ECMS driving for veteran car owner Mark Hunter.
Gerstner Looks for Another Strong Finish: Jeremy Gerstner equaled his career-best finish last week at ECMS and returns to South Boston where he finished fifth in this race in 2014.
Home Tracks: Bowling Off to Hot Start at South Boston
Matt Bowling has already picked up eight wins this season at South Boston and will go after his second track title this Saturday in twin 75-lap features, however he also has a bigger prize in mind. Bowling is also going after his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship. As of September 9, Bowling lead Keith Rocco by just one point with Ty Majeski just three points out of the lead.
