The Fast Break at Dodge City
The Fast Break at Dodge City
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 23, 2015) – Getting off to the fast start, it’s what every racer hopes for.
And several drivers did exactly that in the recent Dodge City Raceway Park season opener on April 11, with Ty Williams, Jeremy Sigler, Michael Pepper and Cody Davis breaking out the best with feature wins.
It remains to be seen who breaks out the quickest in the IMCA Modified ranks, with the opening feature pushed back by weather to this Saturday’s card that will now include double Modified features along with a full slate of Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
The question is, does topping the season opening event translate to ultimately capturing the track championship?
Based on recent results, it wouldn’t necessarily appear so as only four of 15 opening night winners over the past three years have gone on to capture the season’s track championship. Only Perry Misner and Jarett Lunow have pulled off the feat, with Misner taking the IMCA Stock Car title after winning season openers in 2012 and 2014 and Lunow taking now defunct Hornet honors after opening night wins in 2013 and 2014.
Still it’s Williams, Sigler, Pepper and Davis with early advantages in their respective divisions, and it’s an advantage each will look to build upon with Saturday night’s action that goes green at 7:30 p.m.
A quick look at the DCRP championship point chases with one round of action in the books….
