Take That: Billy Pauch Jr. Drives from 12th to Third Consecutive Georgetown Victory

GEORGETOWN, DE – Take. That.
After a tumultuous week, Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr. claimed his third consecutive Chesapeake Paving Modified victory at Georgetown Speedway in the ‘September Showdown’ presented by Northeastern Supply.
Event sponsor Northeastern Supply brought more than 200 customers to a VIP tent on-site in addition to numerous giveaways.
“It’s been an interesting week, but when you get a fire lit under you, you come back swinging and that’s what we did tonight,” proclaimed an emphatic Pauch Jr. in Victory Lane.
After making the redraw following his heat race, the ‘Kid’s Kid’ pulled the worst number available, starting 12th for the 25-lap affair.
Following another battle with Boyertown, Pa.’s Ryan Watt, Pauch Jr. escaped with a $3,000 triumph at the historic half-mile.
While Pauch Jr. started on the outside of row six, Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown and Milton, Del.’s Mark Pettyjohn started on the front row.
When the green flag dropped, Pettyjohn raced off the outside groove, leading the initial lap before a yellow flew for a car stopped over the turn’s three and four banking.
When the field went back to racing, Watt and Pettyjohn duked it out for the lead, while Godown stalked in third, and Billy Jr. was making his way into the top five.
On lap five, Pettyjohn slipped up through the second turn, allowing Watt and Godown to slide by, shuffling Pettyjohn back to third.
One lap later, Pauch Jr.’s assault on the field continued, as he worked by Pettyjohn to move into the third spot. By lap seven, Billy Jr. had picked off Godown to get to second, and moved in Watt for the lead.
On the ninth circuit, Pauch Jr. appeared to be on his way to take the lead, before a yellow for debris reset the field, and put Watt back at the head of the class.
When the field returned to racing, Pauch Jr. continued to work over Watt, as the two went side-by-side for multiple laps, before Billy Jr. finally cleared Watt coming to complete the 13th trip around the speedway.
Pauch Jr. and Watt occupied the top two spots for the green flag, while several others traded the third position over the next several laps.
Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc and Sewell, N.J.’s Richie Pratt Jr. both offered Godown challenges for the final podium position, but ultimately the ‘Ringoes Rocket’ cleared them and held on to third before a yellow flew with five laps to go.
Pratt Jr.’s charge came to an unfortunate halt, falling victim to a mechanical failure with five laps to go.
When the field went back to racing, Watt offered one challenge to Pauch Jr., but his attempt fell short, as Pauch Jr. cruised to the $3,000 triumph in his Rick Holsten-owned No. 96.
Watt maintained his lead in the Georgetown Speedway Sunoco Championship Chase with his $2,000 runner-up finish in the Ron Roberts No. 14W.
Godown held on for third in the Dan Sommeling-owned No. 51 and Danny Bouc took fourth in the Craig and Leslie Pondish No. 6. Milford, Del.’s H.J. Bunting rounded out the top five in the Northeastern Supply No. 65.
Hellertown, Pa.’s Rick Laubach finished sixth in the Ryan Kerr-owned No. 1K, followed by Milford, Del.’s Joseph Watson in the Blue Hen Racing No. 30. Belle Mead, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso picked up eighth in the Grosso Homes No. 32 and Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle was ninth in his family-owned No. 6. Frankford, Del.’s Matt Smith rounded out the top-10 in his Rent Equip No. 97.
Twenty-five Chesapeake Paving Modifieds signed in to compete in the ‘September Showdown’ presented by Northeastern Supply.
West Grove, Pa.’s Tyler Ross picked up the win in the only United Racing Club (URC) 360 Sprint Car race of the season at Georgetown Speedway.
In a 20-lap affair that saw the front row get tangled on the initial green, Ross and Mertztown, Pa.’s Josh Weller took advantage, setting the pace for the entirety of the race.
With Weller leading, Ross continued to pursue, but a yellow flag fell every time it appeared Ross was ready to make a move.
A yellow with three laps to go set Ross up for one more chance, and he took advantage.
Ross attached himself to Weller back bumper as the field went back to green, before throwing a slide job at Weller coming off turn four to the two-to-go sign.
Weller tried to slide back by Ross in turn’s one and two, but his bid came up short. Ross bested Weller and Myerstown, Pa.’s Dallas Schott to picked up the win.
Carlisle, Pa.’s Jason Shultz grabbed the fourth spot and Burlington, N.J.’s Robbie Stillwaggon rounded out the top five.
Georgetown, Del.’s Ross Robinson picked up an emotional First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Model 20-lap victory, just six days after the passing of his father, C.R.
Robinson started on the outside of the front row, jumping to the lead and occupying the top spot for the entirety of the 20-lap feature. Fellow Georgetown, Del., native Matt Hill raced from his seventh starting position to grab the runner-up spot.
Seaford, Del.’s Trevor Collins, the current point leader in the RUSH Late Model division, finished in the third spot. Millsboro, Del.’s Donald Lingo Jr. grabbed the fourth spot and Georgetown, Del.’s Joey Warren rounded out the top five.
Milford, Del.’s Jamie Eichholz swept the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car features in the Modified and Sportsman divisions.
Eichholz outdueled Kerry King to claim the Modified feature and dominated the Sportsman feature to claim both victories.
Harbeson, Del.’s Kirk Lawson returned to Victory Lane in the Little Lincoln division at the progressively banked half-mile. The crowd-pleasing victory saw Lawson take the lead inside of five-laps to go, stealing away the win.
Lawson upended Todd Sammons and Jordan Herbert to take the 12-lap affair.
Matthew Smith had a long day, spending most of it help his brother Dave get his motor in for the Delaware Super Truck race.
The Smith Brothers made it on time to race, and it was Matt claiming the victory, with Ryan Efford and his brother David chasing Matt to the checkers.
Joe Waters dominated the 12-lap Delmarva Charger feature, racing from third to first in the opening lap and never relinquishing it in the non-stop feature.
Jay Lowman raced from eighth to second and Robert ‘Pacman’ Paczkowski rounded out the top three in the 12-lap.
Racing resumes at Georgetown Speedway on Friday, October 1 as the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars join the Chesapeake Paving Modifieds (25 laps, $3,000-to-win) to headline the event on the first day of October. The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman will also be on hand for a 20-lap, $1,000-to-win feature event. The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers will also join in 12-lap, features only events.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
