rg10916-16Afton NY.- October 10, 2016- Ryan Godown passed I-88 Speedway track champion Andy Bachetti on the 36th lap of the Short Track Super Series event at I-88 Speedway and went on to take the win in a race which went caution free for the 50 lap distance. Godown, of Ringoes NJ, started sixth in the 27 car field, breaking into the top four by the eighth lap.

Bachetti, of Sheffield MA, drew the pole for the start of the race and pulled out to a full straightaway lead by lap five before encountering lapped traffic on the seventh circuit. The traffic resulted in second running Tommy Meier, of Midland Park NJ, catching the leader.

Meier would relinquish second to Godown on lap 26 as the leaders ran in heavy lapped traffic. Ten laps later Godown passed Bachetti for the lead on the inside of turn two and cruised to his second Short Track Super Series race of the year at the track.

rg10916-19Wurtzboro’s Danny Creeden crossed the line second with Bachetti third, Meier fourth and Masonville’s Shaun Walker finishing fifth after starting 18th. By virtue of his third place finish Bachetti won the Northern portion of the Short Track Super Series. The race originally scheduled for Saturday was held over until Sunday due to persistent late afternoon showers.

Cortland’s Nick Nye completed a weekend sweep of the Sportsmen events, winning the Open Sportsmen feature on Friday night and followed it with a win in the heldover GRIT Crate Sportsmen feature on Sunday night.

In the Sunday night 25 lap GRIT Crate Sportsmen event tenth starting Nye took the lead from polesitter Allison Ricci on lap 14. Ricci, of New Paltz, held off a strong challenge from Dolgeville’s Cody Clark through the remaining laps of the race, running wheel to wheel for most of the final laps before crossing the line second. Clark would finish third with Bloomingburg’s Jimmy Johnson fourth and Casey Pavlick, of Addison fifth. The finish is unofficial pending technical inspection.

Jordan Poirier made the long haul from Beloeil, Quebec to pick up the Empire Lightning Sprint win in the Sunday portion of their weekend. Poirier started on the pole and led every lap of the race. Finishing second was Yannick Poirier, Beloeil, Quebec with Jon Moore, of New Lebanon, third, Eric Boisvert, fourth and Jesse Pruchnik fifth.

Before the rain washed out the remainder of the Saturday program the Empire Sport Trucks, Northeast Vintage Dirt Modifieds and Xcel Modifieds completed their events for the day.

Unadilla’s Bob Crandall picked up the win in the EST feature taking the lead on lap three after starting sixth. Crandall held off Unadilla’s Ralph Cuozzo, Afton’s Rob Loucks Oneonta’s Steve Judd and Oxford’s Jim Fowlston in taking the win.

In the Northeast Vintage Dirt Modified feature Darryl Hulbert, of Greenville took the win with Florida NY’s Rob Sanford finishing second, Ray See, of Patterson third, Tom Laner of Wantaugh NJ,  fourth and Carmel’s Chris Adams fifth.

In Saturday’s Xcel feature, Aaron Bowes of Orefield PA took the lead from Pipersville PA’s Luke Harrar on lap 15 and went on to win the event. Josh Pepe, of Nazareth PA finished second with Richie Hitzler, Harrar and D.J. Hunt rounding out the top five.

In the Friday program Kyle Smith, of Great Barrington MA, took home the trophy in the CRSA Sprint 40 lap feature with Nick Nye starting his weekend out with the first of two Sportsmen feature wins, taking the checkers in the Open Sportsmen race. Athens PA’s Doug Stack Jr. captured the win in the Fight Night Street Stock event while D.J. Hunt won the night’s Xcel Modified feature. Stephane St. Laurent won the Empire Lightning Sprints feature.

Kyle Smith started on the pole and led every lap of the CRSA feature. Into lapped traffic by lap 6, Smith was challenged by Scott Goodrich, of Middletown, until the caution waved on lap ten for a two car tangle in turn four.

When the race went back to green, Smith again led with Goodrich holding down second and Middletown’s Brian Krummel running a close third.

At the halfway point Smith had opened an eight car advantage over second running Goodrich as the leaders closed in on heavy lapped traffic.

The caution would wave again on lap 31 for a slowing Josh Pieniazek of Schenectady. Smith would open a six car length lead on the restart and went on to take the win. Goodrich would finish second with Middletown’s Billy Van Inwegen third, Krummel fourth and Lake Arienl PA’s Eddie Strada fifth.

Nick Nye took the lead from polesitter Charlie Hendrickson Jr., of Bethel on lap five in the Short Track Super Series Open Sportsmen feature. The caution would come out one lap later for a slowing Dave Rosa, of Delhi, in turn four. On the ensuing restart a multicar tangle in turn one resulted in Cortland’s Ben Bushaw rolling. Bushaw was okay but his race was over.

When the race restarted Nye was leading with Hendrickson second, Shane Jablonka third, Jimmy Wells, of Rosendale, fourth and Phil Vigneri, of Elba, fifth. On the restart, Walton’s Butch Klinger moved into fifth while Nye began to open a lead.

At the halfway point Nye continued to lead with Hendrickson holding down second, Klinger had worked his way to third with Wells fourth and Jablonka fifth.

At the finish it was Nye taking the win, Klinger crossed the line second with Wells third, Hendrickson fourth and Rosa fifth.

Despite heavy pressure from Horseheads’s Jerredd Dennis and Jon Carpenter, of Groton, Stack went on to take the win. Dennis finished second with Carpenter third, Earl Zimmer, of Newark Valley fourth and Lakeville’s Tom Savercool fifth.

D.J. Hunt won the Xcel Modified main from the pole over Aaron Bowes, Richie Hitzler, Oneonta’s Will Eastman and Tyler Bartik, of Emmaus PA.
