Earns $6,000 with 1st-ever series win at Ohsweken’s Big-Block inaugural

OHSWEKEN, ON – July 1, 2015 – Chad Brachmann of Sanborn, N.Y. says his first-ever Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified win, before a large crowd at Ohsweken Speedway Tuesday, is a “very big deal”.

“My father Mike and my two brothers were there,” Brachmann said. “It was special. We’re a low-budget family team that goes out and races a Big-Block Modified when we can. We nailed it last night!”

Brachmann, a veteran regular at Ransomville and Merrittville Speedways, has prior experience navigating Ohsweken’s banked 3/8-mile. The Super DIRTcar Series was making its inaugural appearance at the Ontario track and some teams were seeing it for the first time.

“I’ve won a few races there, he said, “But never in a Big-Block. The most satisfying thing is that these guys are the best of the best. You can race with them. If you need an inch, you get an inch. You’re going to be raced hard, but not everybody’s leaving on the wrecker.”

Brachmann was at the wheel of the No. 3, sponsored by Finditquick.com and Painter’s Plus and powered by a new engine built by Jeff Shaft of Nichols-Hepp Machine in Lockport, N.Y.

He was glad he thought twice about making an early pit stop when the race went red on lap four following Erick Rudolph’s rollover.

“I thought about going in to make some changes, but I’m glad I didn’t,” Brachmann admitted. “The car came in. I was running the bottom for a while, but then the outside came to my liking and nobody else seemed to want to run up there.”

After drawing alongside race leader and eventual runner-up Dale Planck on lap 59, Brachmann gained the lead on lap 63.

“I actually passed him once, but then there was a yellow and I thought the race might be taken from me,” he said. “I thought he’d take my line on the restart since I’d showed it to him. I’d played my hand.”

Brachmann spoke of being known as, ‘the guy who keeps winning the Big-Block Last Chance Qualifier for the Syracuse 200’. “They’ve asked me not to go any more,” he joked.

“I feel good about getting my first win in the series at Ohsweken,” Brachmann said. “Glenn Styres does a great job there. They work hard and they get it right.”

The next event for the Super DIRTcar Series is Thursday, July 2 at Canandaigua Motorsports Park where the Big-Block Modifieds will strap in for the $30,000 “Stars and Stripes 76”.
