Successful NEPA Race Car Show Wraps Up at Laurel Mall
(WEST HAZLETON, Pa. 2-15-15) The 2nd Annual NEPA Race Car Show presented by B. Swartz Transport of Lehighton concluded its week-long stay inside the Laurel Mall in West Hazleton and to say it was an unqualified success would be a huge understatement. Pride, passion and perfection can be seen everywhere among those who displayed their race vehicles.
And, never mind some bone chilling weather as each day of the show there was noticeably more foot traffic according to mall management. Area race fans flocked to check out the striking assortment in anticipation of the soon-to-start 2015 race season here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Jim Yanoski’s 1965 Pontiac GTO Outlaw Pro Street drag car was chosen Best Appearing Car. Sponsored by SSPTV-13 and judged by Jeannine Lesante-Mazurkiwecz and Ken Cara of SSPTV-13, the decision was a close one according to Cara.
“Dino Oberto (event organizer) always tells me how great the racing community is in NEPA. Seeing it first-hand I agree and it was an honor to be a part of it even if it was only for a week,” said Cara.
“It was tough to make our final pick because everyone had such great looking cars. Congratulations to Jim Yanoski and to everyone for putting on a great show.”
Throughout the week Cara, who is the SSPTV-13 news anchor, aired reports and select driver interviews from the mall.
Little Miss Motorsports 2015 Jayden Gursky made an appearance on Friday night to sign autographs and take photos with mall-goers.
The highlight of the week also came on Friday evening when local racing aficionado Stan Lobitz hosted a Racers Night Out at his Hazle Township catering hall.
Upwards of 150 people attended the affair that included a great buffet, driver interviews, videos, slideshow and plenty of bench racing.
The NEPA Race Car Show had representation from Pocono Raceway, Weatherly Hillclimb, NEPA SCCA, ATQMRA, Vintage Division of the ATQMRA, Mahoning Valley Speedway, Numidia Dragway, Greenwood Valley Action Track, On Track Racing Experience, Xcel 600 Mods, Mountain Speedway, Micro Stock Racing Series, Selinsgrove Raceway Park, Orrville Kart Club, Snydersville Raceway and Penns Creek Raceway.
