ACCORD, NY – The final dirt-track event of 2015 is approaching and an all-star lineup of drivers will clash at Accord Speedway this Saturday, November 28 for the ‘Gobbler’ post-Thanksgiving event.

Headlining the ‘Gobbler’ spectacular is a 50-lap main for big-block/small-block Modifieds offering a healthy $5,500 winner’s share and $300 just to take the green flag. Sportsman (Open vs. Crate 602) race for 25 laps and $1,500 to win plus Crate 602 bonuses. Completing the program will be Street Stocks, in the Ron Wright Memorial with a $700 winner’s share for 20 laps, and Slingshots racing for $300 to win in a 20-lap feature.

The hefty pay structure, lap money and bonus awards for the ‘Gobbler’ Modified event combined to pique the interest of competitors from across the Northeast.

‘The Doctor’ Danny Johnson will make the tow from Rochester, N.Y., to compete with the Chris Gennarelli-owned No. 27J. Johnson, a Northeast Modified icon, is a perennial contender at the Accord bullring.

Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP $15,000 champion Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., the Northeast’s leading feature winner in 2015, will invade with Jeff Daley’s No. 44 in search of his elusive first victory at Accord, one of the few New York State facilities where he has never won a feature event.

A former Accord and Short Track Super Series champion, Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., returns to the quarter-mile oval where he raced regularly for many years on Friday nights.

King Ferry, N.Y., driver Mike Mahaney won the championships at two New York speedways – I-88 and Thunder Mountain – along with capturing the American Racer Southern Tier Challenge Cup overall title in ‘15. Mahaney has not finished outside the top-six in his trio of special-event starts at Accord this season and aims for a big payday in the Jim Shear-owned No. 77x Saturday.

Jeff Strunk of Boyertown, Pa., a star on the Pennsylvania small-block circuit, won the most recent Modified event at Accord in September when he collected $5,000 in the ‘King of the Catskills’ main. Strunk will aim to double up on Accord victories in the ‘Gobbler’ on Saturday with the Zubi’s Racing No. 88.

Short Track SuperNationals winner in October at I-88 Speedway, Danny Creeden, will be in the ‘Gobbler’ field. Creeden, of Wurtsboro, N.Y., holds a guaranteed redraw position via his SuperNationals “Working Man’s Race” score at the Afton Fairgrounds.

The 2013 ‘Gobbler’ winner makes his return to Accord on Saturday when Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., climbs aboard the Gary Mann-owned No. 55. Perrego is a past ‘Battle of the Bullring’ winner at Accord, as well, having topped the ’14 midweek special.

Multi-time champion at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., Chuck McKee, is set to do battle at Accord with the Chic Sloat-fielded No. 211. McKee finished inside the top-five in the ’14 edition of the ‘Gobbler’ event.

One of the long haul candidates is Shawn Ward of Hurlock, Md., who competes regularly at Delaware International Speedway, where he is a past feature winner. Ward looks toward his first appearance ever at Accord with his No. 7W small-block.

Brian Malcolm of Lake Ariel, Pa., pulled off the biggest win of his career when he topped the June Short Track Super Series ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ at Thunder Mountain Speedway. Malcolm heads to Accord hoping for his second “big check” of the year at the ‘Gobbler’ special.

Driving the famed Lincoln Auto Body No. 5, Billy Van Inwegen of Sparrowbush, N.Y., plans to compete in the ‘Gobbler’ coming off a solid top-10 performance in the Lincoln Auto Body ride in the recent Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway year-end big-block event.

A number of other invaders will battle the tough Accord Speedway weekly contingent led to the ‘Gobbler’ by reigning speedway champion Jeff Heotzler of Wallkill, N.Y.
