Newmanstown, PA – The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) has been sanctioning Midget auto racing for the past 76 years. The Lanco Micro-Midget Racing Club has been in existence since 1957, presenting events for race cars that evolved from Micro-Midgets into current day Micro-Sprints. On the Fourth of July, 2015, the two clubs with so much successful history in their respective backgrounds will combine for the first ever visit by ARDC to Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.
Hyper Racing presents Star Spangled Havoc for the ARDC Midgets, and several drivers with extensive experience at the Clyde are anxious to return to the Newmanstown oval with their Midgets.
Steve Drevicki, the defending ARDC Champion from Reading, PA, is a former Sportsman Micro-Sprint point champ at Clyde Martin. The Penn State grad also owns some 270cc Micro-Sprint victories on the progressively banked speedway, and he’ll wheel his DeGre Motorsports No. 19 on familiar clay during Star Spangled Havoc. Still searching for his first win of the season, Drevicki has been a model of consistency and is firmly in the hunt for a second straight ARDC title.
Brett Wanner – already a 2015 winner in ARDC competition – is a former Sportsman Micro-Sprint feature winner at the Clyde. Wanner used to love to roam the high groove in his Sportsman Micro, and his rim-riding style should work well when the mighty Midgets come to town.
Ryan Greth will pilot one of the Hyper Racing Midgets in the Fourth of July race, and Greth certainly knows his way around the Clyde Martin clay…he’s won some big 600cc Micro-Sprint races under the Lanco banner in recent years, including a $10,000 payday a few seasons back. Earlier this season, Greth registered the very first triumph by a Hyper Racing Midget when he took the checkered flag in an ARDC event.
Bruce Buckwalter and PJ Garguilo are among several others who have logged laps at the Clyde in Micro-Sprint action and are now ARDC veterans.
Joining the non-wing Midgets on July Fourth will be the wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints and wingless 270cc Micros. The 600’s will compete in Bud’s Spring Service Firecracker Frenzy, while the non-wing 270’s take part in the Dayton Parts Clash at the Clyde.
Both Micro-Sprint classes will run for a $1,000 winner’s check, provided each class has 40 or more cars signed in for competition. The payout schedule also offers $100 to take the green in each of the Micro Mains, based on car count. The entry fee for both the 600cc and 270cc divisions is $50.00 per car.
Star Spangled Havoc, a non-wing nirvana for open wheel enthusiasts, will see gates open at 3 p.m. Qualifying heats for wingless 600’s and 270’s will begin at 5:30. Following the qualifiers for the Micros, the track will be reworked and ARDC hot laps are slated for 8:00, followed by heat races for the Midgets and alphabet mains for the wingless Micro-Sprints. The ARDC feature will be the first main event of the night, followed by 30-lap A-Mains for the 600’s and 270’s.
Adult General Admission is just $12.00 for this ground-breaking show, and pit passes will be $30.
Many members of ARDC are comparing the size and layout of the Clyde to the indoor oval in Tulsa, OK…site of the annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
Seven teams took part in Lanco’s pre-season practice night back in April, and by the end of the evening, drivers were really sailing their Midgets into the turns and slide jobs became commonplace.
