Simmons & J. Grosso kick off All-Star Cup Weekend on RIght Foot at New Egypt;

Buffalino & B. Grosso Earn Guaranteed Redraw spots for 100 lap Shootout Saturday

(Oct. 1, 2021):  Justin Grosso of Belle Mead, NJ and Ryan Simmons of New Egypt, NJ drove to victory Friday night in their 20 lap feature events to kick off the All-Star Cup weekend at New Egypt Speedway. Simmons took his first win of the year in the “Underdog 20” Crate Modified feature event. The special non-winners race also locked Simmons into Saturday’s All-Star Cup Crate 25 for Saturday. The Sportsman event saw Justin Grosso dominate the event for his 6th division win of the year, and his 12th overall of the season (combining his 6 Crate wins).

The Vahlco Wheels Modifieds were also on hand for practice time on Friday night, to prepare for Saturday’s $10,000 to win 100 lap All-Star Cup Shootout, and they were rewarded with two guaranteed Redraw starting spots in Saturday’s race for the two fast drivers during the night. Dominick Buffalino earned the first one when he turned the fastest lap of the night in session #2 with a blistering lap of 16.820 seconds around the 4/10 mile oval.  Brandon Grosso’s first session time quick time of 16.913 held up as the second fastest of the night and earned him the second guaranteed spot for Saturday. These two drivers can relax until Saturday’s redraw, when they will join the 12 best heat qualifiers in a draw for the first 14 starting positions for the All-Star Cup Shootout 100.

The 2021 Crate Modified feature winners took part in an exciting 5 lap “Top Dog Dash” on Friday. 2021 champ Pat Wall took the lead from Paul Mancini 2 laps into the event and never looked back, earning $170 for his efforts and a guaranteed redraw spot for Saturday’s All-Star Crate 25. Mancini raced home second to collect $100 in cash, while Johnny Bangs pocket the $50 for third.

The “Underdog 20” for Crate non-winners was the evenings headline event, and pole sitter Ray Woodall wasted no time powering into the lead. Woodall opened up a nice advantage as Matt Miller tried to hold off 4th starter Ryan Simmons for second. Simmons raced Miller hard and clean for several laps side by side, until he finally took over the runner-up spot.  Simmons then set his sights on Woodall, who saw his comfortable lead shrink to a tense car length rather quickly. Simmons waited patiently for a slight mistake, which came on lap 8 when Woodall got a little high in turn two, and Simmons pounced on it and grabbed the top spot. Simmons would control the rest of the event as good battles took place behind him for the rest of the top five.  Simmons recorded his first win of 2021, the fifth of his career. Simmons picked up the second guaranteed redraw spot for Saturday’s 25 lapper by winning the event. Tom Princiotta was second, followed by Nick Van Wickle third.  Invader Chris Lilick pocketed a bonus $100 from BRB Contractors for being the hard charger of the event coming from the back to finish fourth. The hard charger award also came with the third and final guaranteed redraw spot for Saturdays All-Star 25. Will Protinick came home fifth.

Sportsman champion Justin Grosso charged to the front quickly from 6th starting position and dominated the 20 lap race. Grosso’s closest competition came from Crate champ Pat Wall, as Wall had his Crate Mod dialed in and kept pressure on Grosso in the turns for several laps. Grosso was too much for the veteran and Wall settled for second. Princiotta finished third completing a solid night with 2 top three finishes. Will Dupree and Nick Van Wickle rounded out the top five.

The Street Stock 15 lap feature was won by Lee Allen.  Allen finished second 6 times this year, and finally posted his first career win in his first time behind the wheel of Derek Jones’ #74.   Spider Ensinger Jr. finished second and Bill Liedtka raced home third.

Tonight, Saturday Oct. 2nd, it’s the 100 lap All-Star Cup Shootout for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds paying $10,000 to win, $1000 for tenth and $500 to start, along with the Racersguide Crate Modified 25-lap event paying $1000 to win/$100 to start. The Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS wingless Sprints and the 4-Cylinders will also be in action.
