218OSWEGO, NY –October 6, 2016-  An unusually warm fall day set the scene for NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week’s first day of practice at Oswego Speedway. The event officially kicked off at noon when over 35 race cars took to the streets of Oswego, New York for a procession through town. The stage was then set for the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds to hit the newly covered dirt track for the very first time.

Over 62 Big-Block Modifieds signed in for the 45th Annual NAPA Super DIRT Week, and 47 of them took advantage of the practice day to test and tune their race cars. The Big-Block Modifieds had three sets of practice between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

565“I think the track is going to race well,” said four-time Super DIRT Week Champion Stewart Friesen. “It was a little narrow there at practice, but we had to start somewhere. We had to get a base down and get it hard and slick. I’m looking forward to it. It’s a good atmosphere. It’s got that Super DIRT Week Syracuse vibe to it.”

Current Super DIRTcar Series points leader Matt Sheppard was fastest overall with a time of 20.039 seconds. Four-time Super DIRT Week winner Billy Decker was runner up at 20.157, and the driver of the Monadnock Disposal Service No. 19, 2004 Super DIRT Week winner Tim Fuller, was third with a 20.250. As the afternoon went on teams continued to make laps to adjust on their set-up for Sunday’s Bud Light 300.

Practice resumes Thursday, October 6th when the Big-Block Modifieds and the 358-Modifieds take to the track starting 10:00am. Qualifying for the Big-Block Modifieds will roll off at 2:45pm.
