CRAFTSMAN WORLD OF OUTLAWS LATE MODEL SERIES 18th ANNUAL NATIONAL OPEN SUNDAY, SEPT. 4

392SELINSGROVE, PA – August 27, 2016- The Craftsman World of Outlaws Late Model Series will return to Selinsgrove Speedway for the 18th Annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Late Model National Open at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4.

The track’s crown jewel event for the super late model division will pay $8,000 to win and $600 to start the 40-lap A-main. A purse of more than $35,000 has been posted for the only appearance this season in central Pennsylvania by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

The limited late models will compete in a 20-lap feature paying $1,000 to win. The limited late model rules in effect for this race include 358 cubic inch maximum engines and any brand of 11 inch tires. The limited late model weight rule will be 2,350 pounds with driver.

577Last year, Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., wired the field for his third straight win in Selinsgrove’s Late Model Open.

Chris Shuey of Orefield won the inaugural Late Model Open in 1999 followed by a win in the 2001 race. Jeff Rine of Danville, the track’s 12-time champion, is the only four-time winner of the race, having won the Open in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009. Nick Dickson of Lewistown is the only other repeat winner with victories in 2007 and 2012.

Other past winners of the Late Model Open include Kenny Pettyjohn of Millsboro, Del. (2000); Dale Kerstetter of Liverpool (2002); Jeff Smith of Blain (2003); Scott Haus of Hamburg (2004); Dan Stone of Thompson (2010); and Rick Eckert of York (2011).

On the national late model racing circuit, Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., has 14 wins and leads the Craftsman World of Outlaws Late Model Series point standings over last year’s champion and seven-time winner Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga.

At Selinsgrove Speedway, Rine has six feature wins entering this weekend’s racing action and last weekend clinched his 12th career track championship at the Snyder County oval. Single wins this season went to Steve Campbell of Danville, Coleby Frye of Dover, Gene Knaub of York, Pettyjohn, and most recently Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove.

Fans who present a Selinsgrove Speedway rain check from any event during the month of August will receive $5 off adult general admission. Adult general admission will be $30 ($25 with a Selinsgrove Speedway rain check); students (ages 12-17) will be just $10; kids 11 and under FREE; and pit passes will be $40.

Tickets will be sold on race day only. Track gates will open at 4 p.m. FREE camping will be permitted on the speedway grounds over the National Open weekend.
