Ryan Godown Uses Feature Victory to Propel to Second Straight New Egypt Speedway Modified Championship

243New Egypt, NJ– “The Ringoes Rocket” Ryan Godown’s 2015 New Egypt Speedway Modified championship campaign capped off Saturday night in as dominating a fashion as he started it. After winning the first four events of the 2015 season and putting himself out front early in the championship battle, Godown capped off his championship run by winning the final point event to capture the 2015 crown.
John Pakenham and Tommy Farrell lead the 23 car field to take the green flag with Pakenham pulling away to an early sizeable lead. The event would run many laps before the first caution would come out for Rocco Infante who hit the wall going into turn 1 and DJ Ruppert who ran into the back of him, lodging his left front tire in the retaining catch fence. During the caution Billy Pauch, Jr. pulled off with a flat tire but returned to start his battle back to the front before the green flag waved. Before the caution Pakenham had a sizeable lead on the field while Godown had made his way into a three way battle for the second position with Ryan Krachun and Neal Williams. Meanwhile his closest competitors in the point battle, Billy Pauch and Billy Pauch Jr., had fallen back in the field. On the restart Pakenham again jumped to the lead while Godown continued to battle for the next few laps with Krachun and Williams. After making his way into second Godown set his sights on Pakenham. After a late race caution bunched the field back together, Godown would start alongside Pakenham who would jump back into the lead on the restart only to be passed by Godown on lap 23. Godown would maintain the lead and score the victory and championship title as neither Pauch was ever a real factor in the event. Rounding out the top five in the feature finish were Ryan Krachun, Sammy Piazza, Neal Williams, and last place starter Jimmy Horton.
159Steve Davis scored his first career New Egypt Speedway Sportsman feature win and remembered his late friend John Romano, Jr. in his triumphant victory lane celebration. Davis’ win didn’t come without controversy as in post race technical inspection one of his engine seals fell off during a routine check. After a thorough investigation by the New Egypt Speedway technical staff, the seal was deemed not tampered with and the win stood for Davis. Davis scored the victory over Clay Butler, Bobby Butler, Will Dupree, and Mike Lyons. Clay Butler extended his championship point lead to 49 points over Mike Hendershot heading into the double point championship night on Saturday, September 12th.
184Mark Bitner recorded his second NERS Sprint feature win of the season in one of the most exciting sprint car races of the year. Despite a lower car count for the division, all drivers in attendance put on one heck of a race. Jeff Geiges lead the field to take the green but it was Dave Brown who took the lead for the next seven laps. Adam Carberry would pass Brown for the lead but would suffer a flat tire. That put Bitner in the lead for the remaining five laps on his way to the checkered flag. Finishing second was Dave Brown followed by Mike Hagganbottom, Jeff Geiges, and Joe Lord. Mike Hagganbottom leads Bitner by 7 points in the championship standings going into their final double point night on Saturday, September 12th.
