PENN CAN SPEEDWAY’S CLASH AT THE CAN POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN AND FORECASTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS; PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR TO COMPETE THIS FRIDAY

SUSQUEHANNA, PA…With the heavy rain that swept through the area on Monday, coupled with a forecast for 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms, including some severe, Penn Can Speedway was forced to postpone Tuesday’s “Clash at the Can”. The big event for the Race of Champions Modifieds and Sportsman, along with the Four Cylinders will be made up at a later date that has yet to be determined.
“We have really been looking forward to this show but unfortunately with the potential for severe weather today coupled with the massive amount of rain we received yesterday, we had no choice but to postpone tonight’s show”, said Promoter Dan Harpell. “We are making the decision early out of respect to the drivers and fans that were planning on travelling a long distance to Penn Can. There is nothing worse than getting everyone to the track only to have to send them home without seeing the show because of the weather”, he added.
The race will be made up at a later date. “We are currently looking into potential dates to reschedule this race”, said Harpell. “The schedule is pretty full and we are looking for our best possible option without conflicting with special events at other tracks. We will announce the new date in the near future”, he added.
Racing will resume at Penn Can Speedway this Friday night when A-Verdi Storage presents the Patriot 360 Sprint Cars. It will be the first appearance by full blown 360 Sprint Cars at Penn Can since 2007. They will be joined by the 602 Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Four Cyilnders. Race time is 7:30 p.m.
The Patriot Sprints have competed at Penn Can Speedway five times in the past but have not been at the track since 2007. “The Cobra”, Chuck Hebing has been the dominant force winning four of the five Patriot races contested at Penn Can in the past. Hebing is the winningest driver in Patriot Sprint Tour history.
The Patriots are coming off a weekend that found Jared Zimbardi in victory lane at Ransomville and Larry Wight pulling off the double at Fulton by winning both the Sprint Car and Modified features on the same night.
Sammy Reakes IV is the current point leader on the Patriot Tour. Thus far 58 different drivers have competed on the Patriot Sprint Tour in 2015. The most excited one of them to be coming to Penn Can on Friday is former Modfiied competitor and track regular George Suprick. The Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania Sprint Car ace has had this race circled on his calendar for months and there is nothing that he would like more than to take home the victory Friday at his “home track”.
Anyone that was in attendance last Friday on Bicycle Giveway Night can bring in their raincheck from that night and receive $3.00 off admission this Friday for the Patriot show. For further information look us up on Facebook or log onto www.penncan.com.
