Mahoning Valley Speedway Central States Modified Gamblers Series returns Saturday with Mod Twin 50s

 

(LEHIGHTON, Pa. 7-28-15) Last Saturday night at Mahoning Valley Speedway, a pair of 35-lap Modified features took place, the first a rain postponed event from July 18 along with the regular scheduled show.

Two-time track champion Eric Beers won the first and in doing so became Eastern Pennsylvania’s all-time career wins leader with a Modified, earning his 64th victory in the Keystone State and 42nd at Mahoning.

Young hot shoe Austin Kochenash won the regular event, his second of the season.

Earl Paules, had a pair of top-fives in each and is the new point leader. Beers is second in the standings while Don Wagner fell two spots to third. Kochenash is fourth and reigning division champ Kris Graver fifth.

They, along with a full cast of other Modified standouts will be in action for another two-race special this Saturday, August 1 when the 2015 Central States Modified Gamblers Series (CSMGS) returns for rounds 3 & 4 featuring a pair of 50-lap mains each paying $1800 to win.

Run under a poker game format whereas cards will be awarded to the top 13 finishers in each designated feature race, the series’ the top five card holders will share in a $6000 purse with $2000 going to the top hand, $1500 for second, $1000 to third, then $700 and $500 respectively.

The CSMGS season opener on April 11, a 125 lapper, was won by Wagner. The next hand was a 100 lap race onMay 9 that saw Beers score the victory. Now it’s on to races 3 & 4 and a new set of cards will be dealt for each 50.

The remaining CSMGS races are October 3, the Bob “Heavy” Scherer Memorial 100 and OCTOBERFAST 2015 on October 17.

Joining the Modifieds will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks.

Saturday adult grandstand admission is $20, $2 off for students, seniors 65+ and active military. Must have ID. Children 10 years old and under are free.

There is early paid practice held from 12:30 to 3:00. Regular warmups begin at 4:00 and racing starts at 6:00. Grandstands open at 4:00. Kids Big Wheels will take place during intermission.
