NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) For the last several weeks, Burt Myers of Walnut Cove has been slowly gaining momentum at Bowman Gray Stadium.
He’s finished higher than Tim Brown of Tobaccoville for the last four events in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, chipping away at Brown’s points lead each and every time. Saturday’s victory for Myers, coupled with some bad
luck for Brown, made up even more ground in the battle for the championship.
Myers qualified in second, shot out in the lead, and led every lap to take the checkered. Meanwhile, Brown had to slam the brakes to avoid a collision and fell back to 11th. Brown worked his way forward to an eighth place finish

but needed a good second race finish to undo the points damage.
The “Madhouse Scramble” looked like it would put Brown in that position: Brown was set to start third in the second race. But then the rain clouds opened up, and the second race was called off.
“It was a perfect scenario for the Myerses. Finish one-two, some of the good cars had problems, and then it rained and they didn’t have a chance to make it up in the second race,” said Burt Myers. “Tim is in the same situation that
I’m in. He has to capitalize when I have problems just like I have to capitalize when he has problems. And that’s what two championship drivers have to depend on because they’re usually right there in the hunt every week.”
Tim Brown entered Saturday with a 14-point lead over Myers. After the dust from Saturday had settled, that lead had been cut down to only seven points.
In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, points leader Taylor Branch of Lewisville ran into some bad luck of his own. Points contender Tommy Neal of Walkertown was hammering the rear bumper of Branch for lap after lap,
eventually spinning Branch out as the two raced.
An enraged Branch went after Neal to take revenge But while Neal had some dented sheet metal at the hands of Branch, he was still able to finish fourth.
Michael Adams of Yadkinville benefitted from the Neal/Branch feud, taking the checkered and moving into second in the points rankings. Branch, who at one time had a 30-point lead, is now only nine points ahead of Adams.
In the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series, Brandon Brendle of Winston-Salem brought home the win, boosting him into the points lead. Chuck Wall of Lexington drops down to second.
