DELMAR, DE- June 6, 2017- The return of Kenny Brightbill to dirt Modified racing serves as a highlight of the rescheduled ‘Diamond State 50’ at Delaware International Speedway next Thursday, June 15.

The annual Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP stop to the Cathell family’s facility had been scheduled as a kickoff to Memorial Day weekend on May 25. However, rain forced the event’s postponement to June 15, headlined by a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified main event offering $5,000-plus to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $400 just to take the green flag.

The ‘Diamond State 50’ offers points toward the lucrative $10,000 STSS Velocita-USA South Region championship.

Living legend Brightbill, of Sinking Spring, Pa., with more than 440 career feature wins, will strap into a Keith Coulbourne-owned No. 55 at Delaware International. Brightbill is celebrating his 50th season of competition and 2017 is expected to be his last as a driver.

While he competes regularly in SpeedSTR racing at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., a return to Modified racing was welcomed by Brightbill.

“It was like he never left,” offered Coulbourne, with whom Brightbill teamed to win five races and the ’10 Delaware International Speedway Modified championship. “He came down to get fitted in the car and as soon as he climbed in, he had a big smile on his face.”

Brightbill will drive as a teammate to Coulbourne’s regular driver Kevin Sockriter, who won his first career Modified feature last year at Delaware International.

Brightbill’s most recent win in a Modified came on June 4, 2011 at Delaware International. He has since won in a SpeedSTR.

Joining the STSS Modifieds at Delaware International are the Crate 602 Sportsman, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.
