JUNE 5TH BICYCLE GIVEAWAY NIGHT KICKS OFF AN EXCITING PENN CAN SPEEDWEEK
SUSQUEHANNA, PA…The most anticipated week of racing at Penn Can Speedway is upon us. Penn Can Speedweek will kick off on Friday, June 5th with the annual Bicycle Giveway Night along with Little League Night. Just four days later the cars and stars of the Race of Champions Modified Series will come to town on June 9th for the “Clash at the Can”. The tremendous week of racing will conclude on Friday, June 12th when A-Verdi Storage presents the Patriot 360 Sprint Cars.
The Bicycle Giveaway Night is held in conjunction with Little League Night. Upwards of 100 bicycles will be given away on Friday, June 5th. This night is the brainchild of Penn Can Race Director Gary Folk, Jr. who has coordinated this event since its inception. It is by far the biggest night of the year for kids as they will all have a great chance of riding away on a brand new bicycle. All kids age 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
Also on that night Lance Benedict, the Sheriff of Susquehanna County will be on hand to help educate kids and adults on drug awareness and gun safety. Joining him will be McGruff the Crime Dog. It will be a great night for kids and parents alike.
The action then turns to the following Tuesday, June 9th with the running of the “Clash at the Can” featuring the Race of Champions Modifieds and Sportsman as well as the Four Cylinders. The Modifieds will run a 60 lap feature, paying $5,000 to win. The Sportsman winner will take home $1,000 for his efforts in their 30 lap feature and the Four Cylinder winner will pocket $200 for their 20 lap feature.
Who can forget last year’s thrilling finish to the “Clash at the Can”? Track Champion Kevin Hartnett tracked down Danny Johnson in the closing laps. On the final lap he swung to the outside and pulled even with Johnson as they crossed the stripe in a dead heat. People are still talking about that one. Can we have a repeat performance this year? We will find out on Tuesday, June 9th.
The Penn Can Speedweek will conclude on Friday, June 12th when A-Verdi Storage presents the Patriot 360 Sprint Cars. It will be their first appearance at the track since 2007 and will surely be one of the highlights of the 2015 racing season at Penn Can.
Everyone that comes out for Bicycle Giveaway Night on June 5th will receive a discount off admission to the Tuesday, June 12th “Clash at the Can”.
