HPDs Head for Madera’s “Vukovich Classic;” Lundstorm Takes Ace & Hickory Features
The “Vukovich Classic” this Saturday at Madera (Calif.) Speedway includes USAC’s HPD Western Midgets and Dylan Nobile enters the race with a 39-point lead over Toni Breidinger. Toni’s sister, Annie, stands third in the points, just seven behind her sister.
Matt Lundstrom of Concord, N.C. is sixth in the USAC Eastern HPD Midget points after sweeping a pair of 35-lappers last weekend in the Tarheel State. He won Friday at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw and Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Lundstrom grabbed the lead on lap 30 at Altamahaw after Chris Lamb suffered a flat tire. Calvin Carroll, Carson Hocevar, Jessica Bean and Nolan Allison rounded out the “top-five” at the checkered flag. Bean led the first 10 laps, while Lamb led nine before yielding to Lundstrom.
On Saturday, Lundstrom led all 35 laps at Hickory to beat fast qualifier Scott Hunter, Lamb, Mike Ward and Bean.
The Eastern HPD Midget series resumes action May 1 at Ace Speedway.
