Hall of Famer Sammy Swindell to Race at Beaver Dam Raceway with the World of Outlaws on Saturday

BEAVER DAM, Wisc. — June 23, 2015 — Sammy Swindell, who is a three-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, and member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, will be in action with the series on Saturday, June 27 at Beaver Dam Raceway in the Sixth Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by Karavan Trailers. Swindell is currently filling in for the injured Jason Johnson in the No. 41 machine. Johnson, a contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award, suffered fractured vertebrae in a racing accident in California in April. Australian Jamie Veal had previously been behind the wheel of Johnson’s machine.

Beaver Dam Raceway is one of the few tracks on the World of Outlaws schedule that the second-winningest driver in series history has yet to win at in his illustrious career. Swindell has won in Wisconsin in the past at other tracks.

The native of Germantown, Tennessee won his first World of Outlaws title in 1981 and repeated the following season. Swindell claimed his third Outlaws championship in 1997. He has 294 career A-Feature wins with the World of Outlaws, which is second only to 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, who stepped away from full-time competition following the 2014 season.

Swindell also stepped away from full-time racing in August of last year, and has been competing sporadically this year. He has raced in a growing-number of World of Outlaws events in 2015, with a best finish of fifth at I-55 Raceway in Missouri last month.

Tentatively, Swindell is scheduled to be in the No. 41 car until Johnson returns on July 1, then he will join the CJB Motorsports team as a teammate to veteran driver Paul McMahan in about a dozen events over the remainder of the season.
