Mechanicsburg – Cory Haas of York drove the Trone’s Special No. 39 sprinter to the victory Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, rocketing from his front row starting spot to pick up the win.

In the 358 sprint main, defending track champion Kevin Nouse took his first victory of the season.

The first start in the 25-lap 410 sprint main was red flagged when Kody Lehman spun in the first turn, collecting Brock Zearfoss and Anthony Macri.

The next attempt at a start saw Freddie Rahmer tangle with Steve Buckwalter in the same turn, forcing a yellow flag to unfurl.

Haas then sped away in the Trone’s Special on the third attempted start to lead the first circuit over Brian Montieth.

But the caution quickly unfuled again, with just two laps scored, this time for a slowing Adrian Shaffer in the third corner.

The rest of the distance would go non-stop with Montieth giving chase of Haas the entire distance.

On more than one occasion, Montieth appeared poised to take a stab at the leader only to scrub speed as he attempted to set his mount up for a run on the cushion.

Haas entered the rear of the field on the 13th lap, allowing Montieth to get his closest a few laps later.

As the pair headed to the stripe to record lap 16, Montieth was able to get under Haas for the lead in the third and fourth turns but Haas’ momentum kept him in control of the race.

With five laps to go, Haas struggled to get Tyler Eash one lap down and again Montieth had a chance to make the most of his chances but Haas was able to stay just out of striking distance on the cushion to preserve his lead.

Montieth took a final blast for the lead as the front duo shot into the third corner, but came up short at the finish line as Haas was not to be deterred, taking the seventh win of his career at the track by .329 seconds.

It was Haas’ first win at the track since September 6, 2015 and his first since taking over the seat of the Trone No. 39.

Rick Lafferty rode home third followed by Lucas Wolfe and Greg Hodnett.

After starting 14th, Parker Price-Miller rode home in sixth followed by Danny Dietrich, Chad Trout, TJ Stutts and Gerard McIntyre Jr.

Heats went to Matt Boland, Haas and Montieth.

Nouse started third in the 20-lap 358 sprint main and followed Hank Donovan Jr. for just the first lap before taking control of the event.

The entire race went non-stop with last week’s winner, Jeff Halligan motoring through the field from the seventh starting spot.

Halligan took fifth on the third lap, third on lap nine and drove into second with eight laps to go.

Halligan then cut Nouse’s advantage down from nearly half a lap to about a straightaway but ran out of time to gain any more ground.

The victory was the 18th of Nouse’s career at Williams Grove Speedway in the 358 division.

Brett Wanner was third followed by Donovan and Scott Fisher.

Sixth through 10th went to Todd Rittenhouse Jr., Troy Wagaman Jr., Matt Findley, Gregg Foster and Chris Frank.

Twin heats went to Nouse and Donovan.
