STIRLING, ONT –September 22, 2016- The Go Nuclear Late Model Series returns to action on Saturday, September 24 for the $6,000-to-win 6th annual Excel Tower Service Great Crate Race. The 65-lap race is the longest of the season and the biggest payday of the campaign for the Crate Late Model touring series.
The winner of Saturday’s race walks away with a massive $6,000 prize with main event starters earning a minimum of $250. Lap sponsorships have increased the $18,900 purse north of $20,000.
The history of the Great Crate Race is only five years long, but it has produced memorable finishes and plenty of side-by-side racing. Trenton, Ont. driver Charlie Sandercock won the 2015 edition of the race after several runner-up finishes. Dale Caswell of West Monroe, NY is the only two-time winner of the race after back-to-back victories in 2013 and 2014. Lee Gill won the inaugural race in 2011 while Chuck Meyers went to victory lane in 2012.
Entering the series’ tenth scheduled race of the season, Sandercock leads the championship standings with three victories to his credit this season. Brighton native Brandon Mowat is second, 19 points back of Sandercock, with two wins so far this year. Current Brighton Speedway point leader Phil Potts is third in the series standings ahead of Trenton’s Kyle Sopaz and Auburn, NY pilot Chris Fleming.
The series is coming off a tripleheader weekend that featured a two-day stop at the Mohawk Nationals and Weedsport Speedway. Brandon Mowat and series point leader Charlie Sandercock earned victories at Mohawk while Sunday’s race at Weedsport was rained out.
Pit gates open at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 24 at Brighton Speedway. Hot Laps are scheduled for 5:00pm. Racing begins at 6:00pm. Pit admission is $34 for Brighton Speedway members and $38 for non-members. Additional information can be found at www.brightonspeedway.ca and www.imagefactor.ca/applefestshootout.
