GEORGETOWN, DE – The resurfaced and progressively banked Georgetown Speedway will be ‘open for business’ this Saturday, March 10.
An Open Practice is scheduled for the half-mile oval from 1-5 p.m. All race vehicles are invited to participate. Racers will be given a fully prepped and manicured speedway in advance of the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Weekend Season Opener March 16-17.
Gates will open at noon. Cars will hit the track at 1 p.m. with continuous rounds for all divisions represented.
The response from competitors during pre-season track rental sessions have been positive. The clay surface has remained smooth and the banked, wider track provides additional racing room.
Pit admission is $20 for Adults (ages 13 and up), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children (ages 5 and under). Grandstand admission is FREE.
Hurlock Auto & Speed will be on site selling Sunoco Race Fuels, American Racer tires and a full line of oval-track speed equipment.
Food and drinks will be available from Fat Daddy’s BBQ.
In the event of inclement weather, the practice will be contested on the next clear day.
Attention then turns to the two-day Season Opener March 16-17 with a full lineup of racing at the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial. Complete weekend information can be found on the official Georgetown Speedway website at the following link: http://www.thegeorgetownspeedway.com/?page_id=1035.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
