CORNWALL, ON – September 6, 2015 – In the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Jiffy Auto Service 125 at Cornwall Motor Speedway, local favorite Gage Morin started 21st on the grid, steadily advanced through the field, and then passed Chris Raabe with 2 laps to go to achieve his first ever DIRTcar Series victory.

‘’It was a fun race!” exclaimed Morin in the winner’s circle, “the car ran great in all the lanes and it’s always fun to win here in Cornwall.’’

Asked about possibly following the tour, the young gun – who has his race shop in the backyard of the speedway – said, “I would like to run it, but we’ll see with the car owner. “We have a little money in the bank right now!’’ Morin collected the 358 Modified winner’s share of $5,000.

Jordan McCreadie and Steve Bernard were on the front row as Bernard took the lead with Luke Whitteker in third. Soon Whitteker was able to pass McCreadie and he chased Bernard around the quarter-mile.

The leaders joined slower cars by lap 10 as Whitteker was close to Bernard. Lee Ladouceur moved into third as Lance Willix and Chris Raabe ran in the top 5. Alain Boisvert brought out the caution on lap 18.

Bernard kept the lead as Carey Terrance was on the move and advanced to third on the restart. The race went green for ten laps before Ladouceur slowed in the infield.

Bernard’s #54 car was able to pull away from the field as Raabe and Whitteker composed the top 3 by lap 45. Whitteker lost his great position and headed to the pits on the following lap. Steve Bernier slowed the field down as he stopped in the backstretch.

While Bernard still in front, Danny Johnson managed his way into the leader pack by taking second from Raabe on lap 59. Johnson used the inside lane to run with Bernard as the feature got closer to the mandatory pit stop. Johnson was faster inside and passed Bernard on lap 73. The race was stopped on lap 75 for the 10-minute pit stop.

When the race was back to green, Johnson quickly grabbed the lead while Raabe and Bernard were having a great battle for second. Raabe had the edge with Carey Terrance in fourth.

The field was slowed down with 35 laps to go as Simon Perreault spun out in turn 2.

Raabe picked up momentum on the restart and showed his nose to Johnson as both drivers made contact just as Lance Willix brought out another caution.

On the restart, Johnson and Raabe had another great battle. Raabe used the inside and passed Johnson on lap 102 as Billy Dunn quietly moved into third.

While running in third, Billy Dunn hit the wall after contact with a lapped car and lost his great third spot with 8 laps to go.

Dunn’s departure helped Morin, who had a fast machine in the final laps. He joined the top 3 and passed Johnson with 5 laps to go. Morin was able to pass Raabe on the last lap and completed his great work and won the feature.

The series will continue a busy month of September next weekend on Saturday, September 12 at Autodrome Drummond with another 125-lap event.
