OHSWEKEN, Ontario (September 14, 2019) – Scott Kreutter claimed $10,000 USD and the first Canadian Sprint Car Nationals win of his career on Saturday night at Ohsweken Speedway, while Jesse Costa was the victor in the Action Sprint Tour Crate Sprint Car season finale, and Josh Hansen clinched the Action Sprint Tour championship. A total of 97 drivers competed in the 15th Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals presented by Nitro 54 Variety and Arrow Express, including 60 360 Sprint Cars and 37 Crate Sprint Cars.
Canadian Sprint Car Nationals 360 Sprint Cars

Max Stambaugh and Jordan Thomas earned front row starting spots for the 35 lap A-Main, both looking for their first Canadian Sprint Car Nationals win. Thomas took command, while Parker Price-Miller quickly moved from sixth to second and set off in search of his third CSCN win. Thomas looked strong early in the race, but his lead shrunk as he approached traffic and Price-Miller was able to take over at the front on lap nine.

Scott Kreutter started the race on the outside of the second row, but fell back as far as seventh early in the race. Kreutter was still mired in sixth when Price-Miller took the lead, but soon began to mount the charge that landed him in victory lane. Three-time CSCN winner Steve Poirier was also on the move, and took third from Stambaugh on lap nine. Kreutter had other ideas, however, and passed Mark Smith, Stambaugh, and Poirier in quick succession to take third by lap 15; Kreutter’s teammate and eventual runner-up finisher Matt Farnham was up to seventh from his 17th starting spot at this point.

Kreutter and Farnham continued to march forward, and Kreutter took the second position away from Thomas on lap 20. Farnham passed Thomas for third on lap 25, and two laps later Kreutter used a good run exiting turn four to take the lead and begin to open his advantage. Farnham moved past Price-Miller on lap 31 and cut into his teammate’s lead but Kreutter was able to stay ahead to take the victory, the first by a Friday night Ohsweken Speedway regular in the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals. Kreutter also set a track record in the process, as the race went green-to-checkered in just over ten minutes without a caution or red flag.

A rookie with just a handful of 360 Sprint Car starts on his resume, Farnham took the runner-up spot to make it a one-two finish for the Hoddick racing team. Price-Miller finished third, while Thomas and Poirier rounded out the top five. Cory Turner took his first top ten finish at CSCN with a sixth place run, followed by Sam Hafertepe Jr., Dylan Westbrook, Chuck Hebing, and Stambaugh. Westbrook, the Ohsweken track champion, started seventh and fell back to 14th early in the race before mounting a comeback. Hebing’s top-ten finish was his tenth in 13 CSCN attempts.

Cory Turner was the fastest driver overall in time trials, while Mark Smith, Jordan Thomas, Steve Poirier, Scott Kreutter, Parker Price-Miller, and Scott Holcomb claimed heat race wins, Jordan Poirier won the B-Main, Denny Peebles won the C-Main, and Max Stambaugh won the Pole Dash.

Steven Beckett and Liam Martin began the final Crate Sprint Car A-Main of the season on the front row, and the pair diced for the lead early in the 20 lap race. Martin took the lead and held it until lap 13, when third row starter Jesse Costa took the lead as he attempted to win in his first race with the Barr Motorsports team.

Martin kept the leader in sight over the remaining laps but could not retake the lead from Costa, who took the win by just over half a second. Martin settled for the runner-up spot, while Lucas Smith crossed the line third after starting 13th. Smith was penalized two spots for jumping a restart, however, which allowed Paul Klager to celebrate a podium finish while Beckett was credited with fourth and Smith fifth. Josh Hansen clinched the Action Sprint Tour championship with a sixth place finish, followed by DJ Christie, tenth row starter Brandon Murrell, Jordan Hill, and Adrian Stahle.

Adrian Stahle, DJ Christie, Liam Martin, and Jesse McDonald won qualifying heat races, while Terry Baker won the B-Main and advanced from 21st to 11th in the A-Main.
