DIRTcar Summer Nationals Rained Out on Sunday at Wilmot Raceway

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – June 16, 2015 – Bobby Pierce was leading the DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship standings going into Tuesday night’s event at Jacksonville Speedway, but he had yet to post a victory. Pierce checked the win off his list by surging past polesitter Michael Kloos on lap 11 and driving to the checkered flag.

Pierce, of Oakwood, Ill., is trying to join his father as a DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion this season. After his $5,000 victory on the Jacksonville bullring Tuesdaynight, he’s certainly making it hard on the competition.

Runner-up Timothy Culp posted the best Summer Nationals finish of his career with Shannon Babb, Jason Feger and Kloos rounding out the top five.

“I didn’t expect the win to come here,” said Pierce, the reigning DIRTcar Late Model national champion who finished second in the 2013 Summer Nationals championship. “I’ve never been really good here. It’s a little bullring and I’m pretty good at those, but I’ve never been able to have any good runs here. When you’ve got guys like Babb and everyone who’s grown up here racing their whole lives on tracks like this, it’s really hard to beat them, so to get the win here is pretty amazing. I’m just stoked to get rid of those top-fives and knock one off.”

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals rolls into Farley (Iowa) Speedway on Wednesday night, returning to Illinois for the rest of the week beginning Thursday at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill.
