(LEHIGHTON, Pa. 6-2-15) After rain put a postponement to three of the scheduled six features during last week’s card at Mahoning Valley Speedway, fans will be treated to plenty of short track racing action this coming Saturday evening, June 6.
Along with a regular six division show of Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks, the speedway will also host the return of the Xcel 600 Mods plus the rained-out May 30 Dirt Mod feature will be run as well.
At the start of the 6:00 pm program, the 25-lap Dirt Mod feature that was all set to roll prior to the rains washing out the rest of the night one week ago, will be held then followed by a complete set of heats and features for all classes.
The XCEL 600 Mods are returning to Mahoning for the first time since 2010. In 2009 and ’10 the scaled down dirt bodied Modifieds competed on Mahoning’s pavement with full fields and provided some excellent competition. At the time Mahoning Modified regular Kevin Rex Jr., was also touring with the group and parlayed his home track experience into four feature wins. Ryan Higgs, Joe Heintzelman and Chris Stockham also scored victories during that time.
Mahoning Valley is be the only asphalt track the cars will race on this season and there is much anticipation from all the drivers in making the trip to the Lehighton paved ¼-mile oval.
Blue Ridge Communications of Lehighton will be doing a broadcast of the races. BRC13 via the station’s TV-13 Sports will have cameras set up at the track for a tape-delayed broadcast the following week. TV-13 Sports award winning anchor/reporter Brian Unangst will be joined by track announcer Dino Oberto for the calling of the races.
There will be early paid practice from 12:30 to 3:00. Fee is $25 per car. Regular warm-ups will then get underway shortly after 4:00 pm.
Grandstands open at 4:00. Adult admission is $15, there is a $2 off discount for students, seniors 65+ and active military. Must have ID. Children 10 years old and under are free.

Additional news can be found on the track’s official site at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com or on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway and on Twitter at twitter.com/MahoningSpeed. Mahoning Valley Speedway is adjacent to the Mahoning Valley Farmers Market on PA Route 443 just a few miles west of Lehighton.
