Grabs First Victory of 2016 at ‘The Great Race Place’

IMG_0110MALTA, NY- June 18, 2016- The Albany-Saratoga Speedway roared back to action Friday night and when all was said and done a popular driver sat in victory lane. Matt Delorenzo picked up the win in the Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event. The Voorheesville driver returned to victory lane for the first time this season.

In other action, David Schilling (Sportsman), Dan Older, Sr. (DIRTcar Pro Stocks), Zach Daurio (Limited Sportsman), Bill Dupree (Street Stocks) and Steve Ryan (Greg’s Towing and Repair Dual Cam) and Robert Garney (Greg’s Towing and Repair Single Cam) were all feature winners.

The 35 lap Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event got off to a rough start. It took three attempts to get the event started with the second attempt being the most notable. In the wreck Ballston Lake’s Mark Kislowski flipped the Morris Auto Group number three. The incident also included Keith Flach, Jesse Mueller, Brian Whittemore, Bobby Hackel, IV and title contender Kenny Tremont, Jr. Tremont and Kislowski would finish 25th and 26th respectfully.

IMG_0085When racing was able to get started Kris Vernold held the lead. Vernold’s lead lasted three laps before he gave way to Delorenzo. Crowd favorite Ronnie Johnson was running third on lap 16 when he broke and dropped from the event. He finished 20th. The final two caution flags were brought out by Elmo Reckner on lap 24 and Vernold who spin on lap 28 and were not enough to slow Delorenzo.

Delorenzo would bring home the win over a hard charging Brett Hearn, Stewart Friesen, Marc Johnson and J.R. Heffner. Heat races for the 35 car Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified field were won by Flach, Delorenzo and Heffner. Rich Ronca won the consolation event.

IMG_0114David Schilling picked up the win in the 25 lap Sportsman division feature event. The win for Schilling was his first of the season for the up and coming driver. Robert Bublak, Jr. finished second with Connor Cleveland bringing the 09 home third. Tim Hartman, Jr. brought home a fourth place finish with Hunter Bates fifth. A total of 31 drivers entered the event with heat races being won by Jon Miller, Nick Anatriello and Jack Speshock.

Dan Older, Sr. won the 25 lap DIRTcar Pro Stock feature event. The win was the first of the season for the veteran pilot. Robbie Speed finished second, one spot away from earning his fourth win of the season. Nick Arnold recorded his best finish of the season in third with Amsterdam’s Chuck Dumblewski finishing fourth and Kim Duell fifth. Heat races for the 20 car field were won by Duell and Older.

Zach Daurio picked up the win in the 20 lap Limited Sportsman feature event. The win was the second of the season for Daurio. Travis Billington finished second with James Meehan third, Jacob Volpi fourth and Scott Bennett, Jr. rounding out the top five. Heat races for the 19 car field were won by Bennett and Volpi.

Former track champion Bill Dupree won the 20 lap Street Stock feature event. The win was the Vermont drivers first of the season at the Great Race Place. Chase Aussicker finished second with Jason Meltz third, Al Relyea fourth and David Shippee fifth. For the first time the Street Stock division ran heat races. A total of 25 drivers entered the event with heat races being won by Paul Braymer, Josh Coonradt and Ron Redmond.

Robert Garney and Steve Ryan were victorious in the Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinder division feature event. Garney picked up the win amongst the Single Cam competitors. He was followed by Tim Meltz and Brett Horlacher. In the Dual Cam division Steve Ryan picked up his fifth win of the season over Josh Wood and Dave Mullineaux.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action this Friday night with all weekly divisions in action. The Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified division will compete in an Outlaw 200 qualifier and the Sportsman division will compete in a King of Dirt Series event. It will also be Autograph Night.
