(MORRIS, IL – July 7, 2015)—The D’Arcy GMC Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) gave fans extra racing on July 4th. All five divisions competed at Grundy County Speedway on Saturday. STARS put on a full show for their scheduled July 4th race and then provided fans with four extra features. The National Midgets, the Classic Modified’s (Dwarf), the Central States Region (CSR) Minicups, and the Legacy Midwest Racing Series all ran an extra feature to make up for the feature that was halted by rain on June 20th.
In the makeup feature for the National Midgets it was all #4 Brad Greenup in his QRock 100.7, Window World midget for Greenup Motorsports. The race was the race of spins for drivers running in second. The drivers running second with 26, 21, and 14 laps to go all spun. Race officials pulled Greenup’s car over twice to make sure he was not leaking fluid and both times cleared him to continue. So the top three were Brad Greenup, Tyler Baran, and Mario Clouser. Then in the July 4th feature the night was capped with racing fireworks. With four laps to go #88 Billy Hulbert used slow traffic to make a nice pass on the backstretch to take the lead from #99c Mario Clouser. Hulbert went on to take his Troutman Excavating midget for Hulbert racing to the checkered flag. Unfortunately in postrace tech Hulbert was disqualified do to some issues with the car. That in turn gave the win to Mario Clouser in his Packard Transport, Shorewood Animal Hospital midget for Guess Racing. So the final three positions were Mario Clouser, Tyler Baran, and Nick Baran. With the 3rd place finish in feature one and the win in the second feature Clouser came out of the night as the new point’s leader by seven points over Greenup.
The one division that only had one feature was the Illini Racing Series (IRS). However they did not disappoint. The #16 of Erica Ensor went to the front in her Fox Valley Sandblasting and Powder Coating, Renzo Excavating Illini midget for Ed Ensor Racing. This was Ensor’s first feature win in the IRS. Ensor is also the series’ first female feature winner since Susan Spencer in 2003. The top three finishing order was Erica Ensor, Travis Mahoney, and Pat Bruns. Bruns stays atop of the point’s leader board over Ensor by 15 points.
The Classic Modified’s (Dwarf) division also ran two features. In the June 20th feature it was the #32 of Darren Ihrke taking the win, followed by the #51 of Gregg Wills in second, and finishing third was the #23 of Scott Ihrke. For the July 4th feature it was the #20 Tom Schnabel taking the checkered flag in first, followed by the #32 of Darren Ihrke in second, and rounding out the top three was the #51 of Gregg Wills. Darren Ihrke left the event with a demanding points lead over Scott Ihrke and Gregg Wills.
In the June 20th feature for the CSR Mini Cups #13 Jamie Domski took first, #6 Amanda Bohn took second, and #16 Maggie Struthers took third. Then in the July 4th feature it was the #6 of Amanda Bohn topping the field in first. In second was the #13 of Jamie Domski and finishing third was the #16 of Maggie Struthers. At the end of the night Domski and Bohn left the night tied with the points lead and a 38 point lead over third place Struthers.
The final division featured the Legacy Midwest Racing Series. For the June 20th feature it was the #20 of Tyler Brown taking first, followed by the #96 of Nathan Bertino in second, and the #64 of Kyle Voss in third. For the July 4th feature it was the #11 of Jordan Caskey finishing first, the #96 of Nathan Bertino finishing second, and the #20 of Tyler Brown finishing third.
