DANNY DIETRICH GETS CAREER LINCOLN WIN NO. 50; Brett Strickler Scores First Career Victory; Jeff Paulson Wins Vintage Race

Abbottstown, PA (August 8, 2020) – Danny Dietrich scored a milestone win with his Hank Gentzler Memorial victory on Saturday night. Dietrich won his 50th 410 feature at Lincoln putting him 6 wins behind Bobby Abel on the track’s all-time win list.
Gerard McIntyre Jr. and Billy Dietrich shared the front row of the 30-lap feature with Freddie Rahmer and Lucas Wolfe lined up in the second row.
McIntyre had the advantage going into turn 1 with Billy and Freddie in second and third respectively. A three-way battle for fourth was brewing between Tim Wagaman, Chad Trout and Lucas Wolfe when the caution came out on lap 1 for Tyler Esh. Esh slowed on the front stretch and came to a stop in turn 2.
The top five for the restart were McIntyre, Billy, Freddie, Wagaman and Wolfe.
McIntyre got a great restart. Freddie looked under Billy in turns 1 and 2 and took second. Matt Campbell, who was filling in for Brian Montieth as he spent time with his family, was up to fifth from ninth and got to work on Wagaman to try and take fourth.
Freddie was reeling in McIntyre and got close enough to slide under him in turn 4 on lap 6 to take the lead.
The yellow came out again on lap 9. This time it was for Jay Galloway when he spun out in turn 2. Galloway rejoined the field.
This time Freddie led McIntyre, Billy, Wagaman and Campbell to the cone for the single-file restart.
Brandon Rahmer tried to get by Campbell to enter the top 5. While those two battled for position Danny Dietrich entered the mix. Dietrich got by Brandon for sixth.
Wagaman was working on Billy for third and took the spot on lap 12.
Campbell and Danny made it a three-way battle with Billy for fourth with Danny getting by them both to take the spot.
Danny challenged Wagaman for third and took the spot coming out of turn 2 on lap 16. Next in Danny’s path was McIntyre. Danny got by Gerard for the runner-up spot on lap 19.
Freddie had a 1.9 second lead over Danny with 10 laps to go.
The caution lights came on for Tyler Ross on lap 21 when he fell off the pace.
Freddie led Danny, McIntyre, Wagaman and Dietz who was up to fifth from his 14th starting spot, on the restart.
Freddie went to the top and Danny chose the bottom going into turn 1 while Wagaman battled McIntyre for third.
Danny used the top of 3 and 4 to make up ground on Freddie. The top two touched coming out of turn 2 on lap 24 after Dietrich pulled a slide job. The contact allowed Dietrich to take the lead.
Danny crossed the line 2.345 seconds ahead of Freddie for his 50th win. Wagaman finished third. McIntyre held on to finish fourth and Dietz rounded out the top five.
410 heat winners were Freddie Rahmer, Billy Dietrich and Lucas Wolfe. Chad Trout set quick time over the 30-car field with a lap of 13.271 seconds.
Brett Strickler Scores First Career Victory
Brett Strickler led the 20-lap feature wire to wire to score his first career win in the 358 division at the track.
Strickler lined up to the outside of pole-sitter Zach Allman at the start of the feature.
Strickler took the lead going into turn 1 on the start with Allman and Cody Fletcher side by side for second coming out of turn 2.
The yellow came out before the first lap was in the books. The field lined up for a complete restart behind Allman and Strickler.
Chris Frank came to a stop on the back stretch before the green came out for the restart. Frank’s belts had come loose. When a driver stops for a safety issue they are able to restart in their running position instead of tailing the field. Frank kept his third starting spot.
Strickler took the lead once again at the start. Fletcher was up to second as he came out of turn 2 but the red flag came out before a lap was completed.
Cameron Burke and Hayden Miller both got upside down and Justin Foster was collected as a casualty of the incident. Foster was able to rejoin the field for another complete restart.
The third time was the charm for the field to start. Strickler shot out to the lead once again. This time it was Frank battling Allman for second.
While Frank was chasing down Allman, Doug Hammaker caught up to him and wanted the third spot. While Hammaker was trying to get by Frank, Fletcher got by him to take fourth. A three-car battle for third ensued between Fletcher, Frank and Hammaker.
Justin Foster came to a stop on the front stretch on lap 4 bringing out a caution.
Strickler led Allman, Fletcher, Hammaker and Frank to the cone for the single-file restart.
Strickler drove to the lead into turn 1 with Hammaker getting by Fletcher for third and battling Allman for second.
Kody Hartlaub entered the top 5 on the restart.
Hammaker got to the outside of Allman coming out of turn 4 to take second on lap 7.
Allman, Hartlaub and Fletcher battled for third with Hartlaub taking the spot on lap 9.
The red flag came out again on lap 10 when Zane Rudisill tipped over in turn 1. Matt Findley got collected in the incident as well.
Strickler paced the field for the restart ahead of Hammaker, Hartlaub, Allman and Fletcher.
Strickler and Hammaker both chose to go low into turn 1 with Strickler holding on to the lead.
Jeff Rohrbaugh, who sits atop the all time win list in 358 competition at the track, entered the top five on lap 11.
Hammaker was trying everything to get by Strickler including a slide job on lap 13 in turns 1 and 2. Strickler got Hammaker back coming out of turn 2 to keep the lead.
As the top two battled for the lead, Hartlaub reeled them in.
Strickler was making the bottom of 1 and 2 work as Hammaker rolled through the middle. Despite throwing everything he had at the leader, Hammaker couldn’t make the pass.
Strickler won his first 358 feature by 1.049 seconds over Hammaker. Hartlaub crossed the line third. Rohrbaugh finished fourth and Chris Arnold completed the top five.
The 358 Sprint heat races were won by Travis Scott, Jeff Rohrbaugh, Chad Criswell and Chris Frank.
Jeff Paulson Wins Vintage Race
Jeff Paulson lined up fourth for the 15-lap Outlaw Vintage Racing Series feature on Saturday night.
Jon Lines started on the pole with Andy Cassel lined up on his outside.
Lines took the lead going into turn 1 but Cassel took over the top spot coming out of turn 2 as Lines struggled to control the car through the turns.
Paulson moved into second before the caution lights came on for Lines on lap 2. John spun out in turn 2.
Cassel led Paulson, Dave Dissinger. Mike Stofflet and Mark Hahn for the restart.
Cassel went high in turns 1 and 2 with Paulson using the bottom to close in on the leader. Paulson made the pass for the lead coming out of turn 4 on lap 2.
The yellow flag came out again on lap 3 when Travis Jacobus stopped on the highside of turn 2. Cassel was off the pace when the yellow came out.
Paulson paced the field and took the lead on the restart with Stofflet trying to get by Dissinger for second.
Stofflet got by Dissinger at the line on lap 4 for second right before the caution came out as Cassel was once again off the pace.
Paulson took the lead once again on the restart and started to pull away from the field.
Scott Schaeffer drove by Dissinger for fourth on lap 6 and made quick work of Hahn for third.
Stofflet caught Paulson and got a nose under him lap 7. Schaeffer entered the mix using the high side as the leaders entered lapped traffic on lap 11.
Paulson passed two lapped cars at the line on lap 12 and Stofflet was right behind him.
Another yellow came on lap 13 for John Marks who got spun around in turns 1 and 2. Stofflet and Schaeffer who were running second and third got collected in turns 1 and 2 as well.
Paulson hung on to the lead once again on the restart. Paulson crossed the line ahead of Hahn, Dissinger, Gene Wrightstone who had driven through the field after starting tenth, and Lines.
This Saturday, August 15, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with 410 Sprints, 358 Sprints and the Mid Atlantic Modifieds. Action starts at 7:30PM with pit gates open at 5PM and grandstand gates opening at 5:30PM.
