BREWERTON, NY – September 15, 2017 – Corey Barker from Fulton, NY gave himself the best birthday present possible Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway, a trip to victory lane after winning the DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series Central Region “Duel at the Demon 50” presented by Gillee’s CITGO Lubricants.

In the feature, Central Region series point leader Dave Marcuccilli would take command of the race on lap-4 and looked to run away and hide with the only thing slowing him down during the race was cautions.

With a half a straightaway lead, disaster stuck for Marcuccilli when he suddenly pulled into the infield on the front straightaway on lap-37. Marcuccilli would later say a yoke broke on his transmission.

After Marcuccilli broke, Corey Barker would take the lead from Jeremy Pitcher on lap-41 and then would drive away for the win.

Barker related that they only brought out his 2010 Troyer just to shake it down because it hadn’t been raced all season. And lady luck was on his side because almost the entire race when there were cautions other racers would pull up next to him to signal he had a left rear tire going flat. Somehow it held just enough air to get him to victory lane.

With 46 cars ready to tackle the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” it would take five heats and two consolations to set the 31-car starting field.

Kyle Inman would grab the lead at the drop of the green and would lead the opening 3-laps until Dave Marcuccilli went to the top of the speedway to shoot into the lead on lap-4.

With 10-laps complete, Marcuccilli bolted out to a half a straightaway lead. Inman, Mike Stanton Jr., Brent Joy and Chris Cunningham raced for second through fifth.

With Marcuccilli still in command of the race and great battles throughout the field, the race would see a red flag on lap-20 when Brewerton regular Rich Townsend took a hard tumble in turns three and four. Townsend would be okay, getting out of his car under his own power.

With 30-laps in the record books Marcuccilli and Jeremy Pitcher from 14th were locked in a tight battle for the lead. Just a few car lengths back from the top-two, Rock Warner from 29th, track champion Ron Davis III and Corey Barker were in their own close race for third through fifth.

Marcuccilli was back out to a half a straightaway lead with 15-laps to go with Pitcher, Barker, Warner and Davis left to fight out what looked to be from second on back finish.

On lap-37 the whole race changed when Marcuccilli suddenly pulled into the infield when the yoke on his transmission broke ending his bid for the win and a chance to lengthen his point lead in the DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series Central Region.

When the green came out Jeremy Pitcher would lead until Barker was able to drive into the lead on lap-41. Once out front, Barker would pull away for the 2.849 seconds victory. Jeremy Pitcher, Ron Davis III, Rocky Warner and Glenn Forward would finish second through fifth. Jessica Power, Zach Sobotka, Brad Rouse, Tyler Trump and Billy Clark Jr. completed the top ten.

In the Central region for the DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series, the next event will be a combined region event at the Fulton Speedway. On September 29-30, the Sportsman will be part of the 32nd Annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton.

On Friday, September 29 there will be heats and consolations. Saturday, September 30 will be last chance qualifiers all leading up to the lucrative Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout 50.
