GEORGETOWN, DE – The 2018 Northeast dirt-track Modified opener has gotten more lucrative.
Jeff Brown’s Chesapeake Paving of Salisbury, Md., sweetened the pot for the season-opening Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend March 16-17 at Georgetown Speedway.
The two-day program includes the 50th race in Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco history on Saturday, as the 49-lap big-block/small-block event kicks off the eight-race STSS Velocita-USA South Region.
Thanks to the Chesapeake Paving support, Saturday’s Melvin L. Joseph Memorial 49 will pay $6,949 to the winner: the largest dirt Modified payout since the speedway reopened under BD Motorsports Media LLC management in 2016.
Friday night’s small-block Modified 30-lap event has also benefited! The winner’s share has increased to $4,049 for the preliminary program.
“Big thanks to Jeff (Brown) and Chesapeake Paving for making our 2018 opener bigger,” Georgetown promoter and STSS director Brett Deyo said. “Being the 50th race in series history, we’ve gotten a lot of interest from drivers wanting to be part of the milestone. It is shaping up to be a huge weekend of racing in the First State!”
Georgetown’s season opener kicks off the richest season in STSS history thanks to the new partnership with Sunoco and Insinger Performance.
Should a driver win both the STSS Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region, they will be eligible for a $25,000 Sunoco/Insinger cash bonus!
Should a driver win the STSS Halmar International North Region or Velocita-USA South Region, they will be eligible for a $10,000 Sunoco/Insinger cash bonus!
“2018 is shaping up to be an historic season for our series,” Deyo added. “And now we are kicking it off with a huge opener!”
Friday’s (March 16) program will be headlined by the $4,049-to-win small-block Modified feature, plus RUSH Crate Late Models battling for $1,049 to win in the season’s first RUSH point race, Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks and open Modified practice for Saturday’s STSS event.
On Saturday (March 17), the STSS Modifieds battle for the $6,949 winner’s share plus the first-ever STSS-sanctioned L&J Sheet Metal Crate 602 Sportsman tour event ($1,049 to win) and feature-only programs for Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks, Southern Delaware Vintage Cars and Little Lincolns.
