May 29, 2017 – Peter Britten recorded two top-10 finishes this past weekend at Sharon Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway.
Britten opened his weekend with a victory in his heat race at Sharon Speedway on Saturday.
“We were charging pretty hard in the heat race,” he said. “It was a pretty close finish at the line. There were some smoother parts to drive through and I used it to my advantage.”
Britten started on the pole for the 25-lap main event.
“The first half of the race me and Rex King Jr. battled it out,” Britten mentioned. “He seemed like he was prepared to run through all the rough stuff down low. I didn’t really want to run down there so I set my car to run around that stuff and run up high.”
Britten felt the highline wasn’t fast enough to get the job done. “I could still go around and be fast but Rex was able to get through the rough stuff without getting screwed up and still run faster laps than me. I didn’t want to beat my car up so I wouldn’t run down there.”
Midway through the race a caution was brought out.
“On the restart I hit a rut the wrong way and just got all messed up,” he said. “It shoved me up the racetrack. I fell back to fifth. I had to claw my way back to third by the end of it.”
Britten is showing strong consistency, closing out his second top-ten finish at Sharon Saturday night.
“You never like to start on the pole and not win but considering the track conditions and everything else we were on pace to be able to win but circumstances weren’t in our favor. It feels good to have a competitive car and package down there.”
Due to Friday night’s race at Albany-Saratoga being canceled, Britten and the No.97 team hit the road for their first visit to Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday.
Britten started seventh in his heat and finished sixth. “We weren’t set up right,” he said. “I don’t run there very often so it took me a little while to get going.”
Sunday night was a regular point show at Utica-Rome, which put Britten at a disadvantage. Due to the handicapping he had to start at the rear in both the heat race and feature.
Britten was able to advance from his 17th starting position in the feature to a 10th-place finish during his first visit at the track this season.
“We passed a couple of really good cars on the way,” noted Britten. “They weren’t pulling away from me and I was racing with them so I felt like I had a pretty competitive car.”
Britten plans to compete this Friday at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Saturday at Sharon Speedway and Sunday at Weedsport Speedway for a special Big Block vs. Small Block show.

“They take a product that there might not really be a huge market for and make it better,” Britten said. “They make by far the best driveshaft’s out there. They put a lot of effort into their torsion bar program.
