600sKutzKutztown, PA –  There’s been a whirlwind of activity and great news for the Wingless 600cc Sprint teams who compete at the JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.
With the new season set to begin in a month – on May 13 – the positive momentum generated by the Wingless 600’s continues to snowball. The winter months have been filled with news of additional money to be won in 2015, a growing list of marketing partners to support the division, and added contingency prizes for those who steer the non-wing, fire breathing beasts that have thrilled the large crowds over the past two seasons at the Berks County oval.
The most recent developments include the announcement that Pioneer Pole Buildings will continue its relationship with the 600cc class and Tim Engler’s fuel injection business, based in Indiana, had signed on as co-sponsor of the division. The Pioneer Pole Buildings Wingless 600 Sprints Powered by Engler Injection will have a third partner as well, with last week’s signing of Hoosier Tire as the official tire of the class.
Back in January, when the Action Track USA 2015 schedule was released at the Motorsports Trade Show, one of the most noticeable additions to the slate of events was a trio of high paying races for the Wingless 600’s. As co-promoters Rich Tobias and Doug Rose prepare to kick off their third season at the helm of the hugely successful speedway, they decided to reward the 600cc racers with three “specials” throughout the campaign.
The first of these special events will be the second event of the season, on May 20, when The King of No Wing 40-lap Shootout will pay $1,000 to the winner (with Gambler’s Challenge). “We are very excited ab out this inaugural event,” noted Rose. “This is the first of the $1,000-plus races and the first 40-lap feature we are presenting for the 600’s. These guys and girls put on some fantastic racing and we want them to have the opportunity to compete in some more prestigious events. We’re going to crown the winner in victory lane, and I am anxious to see who gets crowned first as the inaugural King of No Wing.”
The winner of the 40-lapper will also pick up a guaranteed starting spot in the Linda’s Speedway National Open for Wingless 600’s on October 16-17. The King of No Wing race is expected to draw some of the very best 600cc racers from the area and is certainly lucrative enough to attract drivers from far and wide.
The Wingless Warriors will race for a second big payday on July 8, as Action Track USA hosts the finale of the second annual Tri-Track Challenge. The three race miniseries awards points to the drivers who take part in big races at Linda’s on July 3, Firecracker Frenzy at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on July 4, and at the Action Track USA on the eighth of July. The finale will continue to be a 25-lap, $1,000 to win (with Gambler’s Challenge) event as it was last year. The first Tri-Track Challenge in 2014 saw Alex Bright, the Phenom from Collegeville, win the race but Douglassville’s Jason Swavely captured the overall title as Tri-Track Champion.
The final event of this “Triple Crown” of big money races will be held during the Kutztown Fair with the running of the Wingless 600 Fair Nationals. This show gets even better in 2015, as the 600cc throttle-jockeys test the endurance of themselves and their machines by going 60 laps. The 600 Fair Nationals will offer a top prize of $1,200 (with Gambler’s Challenge). “A 60-lap race for the 600’s is not typical,” said Rose, “but at the Action Track, we like to do things BIGGER. Rich Tobias says it’s important to hold “want to events” for all the divisions on your weekly schedule, and we feel this will be another big one in the Triple Crown of 600cc races. I know, with the nice payday and the anticipation of going 60 laps, this will be circled as a “can’t miss event” for many racers.”
As if the three “big money” races were not enough, Tobias and Rose have created a new dynamic to the popular Mad Scramble – always the first race of the night at Action Track USA.
With Wingless 600 fields that generally top 45 cars each week, Tobias developed the Mad Scramble so that all of the non-qualifiers from the previous week would have a shot at transferring directly to that night’s main event by winning the 12-lap Scramble. The remaining drivers would then have to run heat races and consolations to try and qualify for the evening’s feature race.
While the format of the Mad Scramble is still the same, the management team has produced contingency awards for more drivers who enter, but do not win, the Scramble.
The runner-up in the Mad Scramble each week will receive a brand new right-rear tire, courtesy of Hoosier. The exact prize(s) for finishing third and on back have not yet been decided, but the list of contingency prizes is growing.
Drivers who place third and lower in the finishing order will receive…ten gallons of methanol from VP and Roadrunner Race Fuels, FK Rod Ends, TSR Shocks gift certificate, Hyper Racing gift certificate, Kirkey Seat gift certificate, Kreitz Oval Track Parts gift certificates, Saldana Race Products gift certificate, Sheetz gift certificates, free registrations from Action Track USA, and more.
Businesses or individuals who want to provide contingency awards should contact Doug Rose atamrosecorp@aol.com anytime. The $300 total investment goes a long way for the racers.
As mentioned earlier in the news release, Hoosier Tire is now the official tire of the Wingless 600’s at Action Track USA. Hoosier has signed on to not only supply right-rears to the Mad Scramble’s runner-up finisher, but all 600cc cars will be rolling out on Hoosier rubber in 2015. “Hoosier had come to us a while back about being the official tire of the 600’s, and we looked at the whole dynamic of division and what Hoosier Tire represents in the Sprint Car world,” stated Rose. “We also felt, with approximately 98% of our teams already on Hoosiers, it was kind of a no-brainer to align ourselves with this great company.”
The tire compound will still be open in 2015, as it always has been, but all the teams will need to run Hoosier Tires at Action Track USA.
The new season gets underway with a practice session on Monday, May 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Two nights later, on the 13th, it gets real at the progressively banked oval located across the street from Kutztown University, as the Goldie & Elton Meitzler Memorial Race kicks off the new year and puts into motion the battles for the respective track championships in each division. The first Wednesday Night Rumble of 2015 will see pit gates opening at 3:00 p.m.Race cars will hit the track at 6:00 sharp.
Can Jay Hartman record the three-peat in 2015? Or will Kyle Lick, James Morris, or a host of other worthy candidates unseat Hartman at the top of the Wingless 600 heap?  Only time will tell, but you’ve got to be there to see it!
