ST. LOUIS — Bobby Pierce led all but one lap to win Saturday night’s second annual Gateway Dirt Nationals late model feature inside The Dome At America’s Center.

Pierce, who started second, held off a furious late-race charge from Tanner English and Tyler Carpenter to bank the $30,000 top prize on the fifth-mile dirt oval.

Though English and Carpenter challenged during the second half of the race, a late yellow flag allowed Pierce to take off on the restart and cruise to a 1.559-second victory over Carpenter, who earned $15,000 for finishing second.

Darrell Lanigan romped from 14th on the grid to finish third, with Jason Welshan and Scott Bloomquist rounding out the top five.

It was Pierce’s 15th victory of the season.

Next year’s Gateway Dirt Nationals will be run Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at The Dome At America’s Center.
