IMG_0367MALTA, NY- August 15, 2016- When the 2016 Northeast Crate Nationals takes to the clay at Albany-Saratoga Speedway September 9th drivers will competing to earn a portion of the highest paying purse in event history. Dodson Construction, Dean’s Electrical Service, High Octane Heating & Cooling, Buff’s Auto Service, Electric City Taxi, Burt’s Tree Service, and Next Generation Roofing are all part of the King Of Dirt Racing Series crown jewel paying $2,500 to win – $405 for 10th – and $225 to start.
Albany-Saratoga plays host to arguably one of the biggest Crate Sportsman races each year full of prestige, honor, and history. The victor is showered with 4-foot tall trophies, a flower wreath, and a hefty payday. A race this glorious takes effort from all angles, which include a host of supporters who help immortalize one driver in the history books.
IMG_0375Dodson Construction returns for their 5th year supporting the Northeast Crate Nationals. Also a King Of Dirt Racing supporter, Rich Dodson has been an avid supporter of the Nationals, while fielding a trio of racecars in weekly competition. His success on the track is mirrored by his business that offers a full range of services from remodeling to full construction of dream homes.
Dean’s Electrical Service is entering their 3rd year of support for the Northeast Crate Nationals. Dean Seelow also finds his name on the side of successful drivers at the great race place. When he’s not wrenching, Dean can be found doing residential and/or industrial electrical work in and around the Capital District. Dean along with Kevin Cleveland formed C2 Motorsports.
High Octane Heating and Cooling has been servicing the Capital District for over 6 years. Mike Block Sr. works hard providing residential and commercial heating and air conditioning. When he’s not making life comfortable for customers, Mike wheels his Teo Pro Car at Albany-Saratoga Speedway each Friday night sliding sideways and making friends like his mentor Jack Gentile and his crew chief Stan ‘the man’ Lemiesz. It’s High Octane’s first year supporting the Nationals.
IMG_0365Another first year supporter of the Northeast Crate Nationals is Buff’s Auto Service. Located in Albany, NY Buff’s is headed up by former winning driver Kevin Buff, who watches his sons carry on the family legacy of dirt track racing each week at Albany-Saratoga and Turkey Trot Speedways. Buff’s Auto service is a welcomed addition to the growing support for the Nationals.
Electric City Taxi is new to the Nationals in 2016, but no stranger to the great race place or victory lane. Gary Deroucher’s business is seen on the side of Marc Johnson, Chris Johnson, and his very own Limited Sportsman. Deroucher has never raced before this season, but wanted to feel the rush of driving an open wheel racecar. This is the first year of support from Electric City Taxi.
Next Generation Roofing is heading into their 3rd year of support of the Northeast Crate Nationals. Owner Chad Gregory does quality-roofing jobs for customers in and around the Capital Region. On Friday nights he can be found helping friend and 2-time champion Jeremy Pitts. This is the 3rd year Next Generation Roofing has presented the qualifying events.
IMG_03531-800-GOT-JUNK? is heading into their 2nd year of support for the Northeast Crate Nationals. Carl Schilling is not only a supporter of the Nationals, but in 2016 became title sponsor at King Of Dirt. Schilling also prepares racecars weekly for his son David, who has a feature win this season. Adding a Nationals title would almost certainly be a highlight for this dedicated team.
Burt’s Tree Service has been in business for over 25 years. Frank Burt has supported 2008 Nationals Champion Jack Swinton since the late 90’s. He’s told the driver of the 07, “no matter how good or bad we do, give them hell.” Their friendship forged after Swinton won the Nationals with a scrap pile body, old tires, and a kindred spirit. The rest as they say, is history. This is the first year Burt’s Tree Service is supporting the Nationals presenting the ‘Super Six’ top qualifiers.
“We have an amazing group of supporters for this race. It’s because of them, their dedication, and their passion for Motorsports we were able to build such a solid program for the Sportsman drivers. I’m excited to have each of them part of something special like the Nationals. It’s the crown jewel of the King Of Dirt Series and I can’t express enough how thankful we are to have them part of it with us,” said KOD promoter Rob Hazer.
Formatting for the race is similar to last year. Time trials for all drivers, with the top six automatically locked into the redraw. Burt’s Tree Service ‘Super Six’ will not need to run the qualifying mains, but will be offered a few laps at the rear of the field.
Next Generation Roofing Qualifying mains (B-Main, C-Main, D-Main) will qualify four more drivers into the 100-Lap feature event; with two of those drivers heading to the 12 car redraw. The remainder of the cars will be sent to last chance qualifiers.
Three consolation events will qualifying three from each giving a total of 27 cars qualified from time trails, qualifying mains, and consolations. The remaining three spots will be filled using the King Of Dirt Series provisional point list. There is also a track promoter’s option to add driver(s) at the tail of the field.
30 cars will start the 7th annual Northeast Crate Nationals, with 100-laps being the distance. The first 75 laps cautions will count, but drivers will not loose a lap in the pits under yellow. The final 25 laps are all green flag racing and the traditional double file restarts all the way to the end will be utilized. If after any restart the field is unable to complete a lap, a single file start may be used until the next caution where the field will have a double file restart.
“Lyle has been awesome to work with. Both through the series and on this race, which he’s allowed our vision for a super dirt week type race on a short track to come true. It’s truly appreciated and I’m proud to help make it happen at the great race place,” concluded Rob Hazer.
Joining the 100-lap Northeast Crate Nationals as part of the King Of Dirt Racing Series will be a 25-lap CRSA 305 Sprint event, the Meltz Lumber Street Stock Nationals, and the Tom Couthier Trucking Suicide Awareness & Prevention Small Block Modified 40-Lap event paying $2,400 to win.
Mark down the date September 9th and visit Albany-Saratoga for an action packed racing card during the Nationals race program. Prices are $12 general admission, kids 11 and under $2, $20 for the pits with a license, and $25 for the pits without a license.
Next up for King Of Dirt Racing Sportsman Series is Thursday September 1st at Lebanon Valley Speedway for Mr. Crate Track USA, which was won by Michael Sabia last season. Then it’s time for the 2016 Northeast Crate Nationals on September 9th at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
